Had mixed feelings. Wanted this printer and got burned by hobbyking and after reading the biggest problem is that Creality's QA is all over the place, and HobbyKing's return policy is awful.

This way I can potentially have the QA done (again) by another group and test prints before I get it. Let's see how that works in practice.

I've purchased the 3 v2 refurb from Comgrow, overall experience 6/10

If you are ordering refurb, rest assured comgrow will make things right if anything comes defective. However, be prepared for the following:
1) service requests will require 24 hours for responses from their team (they are based out of china)
2) once they have troubleshot your issue, if it requires a replacement part they will send it to you but be prepared to wait WEEKS for it to arrive (shipped from china)
3) do yourself a favor and buy yourself a ABL (I have a BL touch but I've heard good things about the one that was recently released by Creality)
4) even if you buy a brand new Ender 3 from somehwere else, this machine WILL require fine tuning and tinkering in order to get your prints to come out perfectly. Don't worry, there are lots of videos on YouTube to guide you through it all, but this is NOT going to be perfect straight out of the box

After replacing my x-axis gantry which came slightly bent and installing a BL touch, this has turned into one of my favorite "toys" to tinker with.

I've owned an Ender and now a Prusa. My experience is that you get what you pay for when it comes to 3D printers.

I would seriously suggest not going the Comgrow route unless you are comfortable diagnosing and paying for any repairs to their printers out of your own pocket. A year or two ago I bought a CR10 V3 printer and even though they say they go through all of them and certify them to be working correctly, its a complete and utter lie. Mine arrived with a stripped extruder gear and they ghosted me for over 10 days due to "chinese new year". I ended up buying two replacement gears from an online retailer near a famous South American river and have only had to use one of the gears. No issues since then, things work great, but don't believe their claims about going through the printers, etc. They don't and will be difficult to contact after the sale. That being said, this was my second printer and I'm pretty familiar with how they work so it was easy to diagnose and fix and I did get a good deal on it.

Thanks for this. I do not have my hopes up, and are comfortable diagnosing issues. You may have noticed my "potential" and "let's see how this works in practice" messages Smilie.

Another option is to go for a Prusa Chinese clone [aliexpress.com] (adding PETG parts for $40 ish) for under $400. See youtube for more info. Should be a lot better than this.

Don't buy comgrow refurbs. These are actually NOT refurbs. Comgrow is just reselling returns made by Amazon customers and hoping people fix it themselves. I've heard stories on Facebook of people missing extrusion bars and sheet metal parts completely that Comgrow takes months to provide. There is absolutely no scope of a return. Worst case they will throw 20-50$ to make you suck it up and go away.
TLDR : Comgrow refurbs no bueno

You use the phrase "Chinese new year" but it is indeed Chinese new year and almost all production ceases during the largest annual migration of humans in the world during this period. It's a part of the cost of doing business in China no matter your scale.

Is it really the same thing? I really want a 3 v2 and missed out on the last couple deals.

My CR-10 v2 has been the most rock solid PLA printer I've ever had. Started out with an original Ender and ended up now with three Ender-3's and one CR-10 v2. Smilie

New Year in China is like the week between Christmas and New Years in the US. Literally, everyone is gone for 10-14 days. I was in Shanghai one time during it and it was amazing how the place emptied out. Good for them. Every culture needs a rest and regroup time.

Now, where did I leave my urban sombrero?

I bought a refurbished 3 V2 back in November from Comgrow when a similar deal was posted on SD. I agree it isn't a Prusa printer, but after a BL touch upgrade and replacing the power connectors on the motherboard, I have been churning out prints reliably for under $250. I mostly print with PLA+. It really depends what you think you want to do with the printer. If you want an out of the box, setup it up and run for years without having to tweak, this probably isn't for you.
