Best Buy has the highly reviewed Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook (82QS001HUS, Abyss Blue) on sale for $399. It has been on sale for $449 off and on, but I decided sub $400 is where I needed to be. Choose free store pick up where stock permits, otherwise shipping is free.
Note: Availability for free store pick up may vary by location.

BTW, I decided to go for the 'Open Box-Excellent' available locally for $309. Quite a drop in price. If it doesn't work to my liking, I can buy new at $399 for the rest of the week.

So Apple makes (IMHO) the best tablets in the market. It also decent (or great) value for what you get. But it is everything else apple that is crazy expensive... iphone, mac book, etc... Even things cost a lot more in the apple store compared to the play store such as books.

Me personally, I am anti apple.

I do like Chromebooks.

The GOOD of Chromebooks:
1. OS and Security updates for 8 years... JUNE 2029
2. OS and Security updates done by Google.
3. Chrome OS is considered the second most safe OS to use regarding being hacked. Linux is number 1. The Chromebook is more secure the the apple OS.
4. Comes with google play store for Android.
5. Access to the Chrome Store (over 188 thousand addon apps available, such as add block). In Chrome, www.google.com search "chrome store".
6. This is the full windows version of Chrome (450Mb) while every Android tablet Chrome is a dumb down version of this (45Mb). With full Chrome, you can actually use addons.
7. more peripherals work on Chrome then Android or apple... a lot more. Such as USB-C hub with HDMI, 3.5mm, SD card reader, USB out.
8. You can install Linux and make this a terminal and have access to the Linux store apps (10's of thousands of apps)
9. Chromebooks have a "powerwash" feature. If after a year or six months you notice your Chromebook is running slow, you can powerwash it and it brings it gives you a fresh install with all updates and also re downloads all your apps. After you do a powerwash, your Chromebook should run like it did on the first day.
10. Chromebooks have ZERO bloatware. There is not one Android tablet that you can buy with zero bloatware.

The bad:
1. There is a learning curve with Chrome OS
2. It is very difficulty to sideload apps.
3. This version of Chrome is Android 9 at 32bit. Some android apps don't work on 32 bit OS such as Call of Duty.

TIPS:
1. I would download the app Brave or Valvaldi browser. Most people who complain that this tablet is slow... are using Chrome (and they compare it to the speed of an Android tablet using Chrome). Full Chrome is 10 times the size of Android Chrome, using another browser for simple browsing puts the web surfing speed back to what is on other tablets with the same CPU (Fire HD10).

2. I would install Gboard. The keyboard is missing something to move around the curser. With Gboard, if you side swipe the spacebar to the right, the curser moves to the right and the same thing about swiping the space bar to the left. Only Chromebook tablets and Chromebook convertibles are able to install Gboard, all other Chromebooks will not allow this.

3. Only the Chrome App has Widevine Level 1 support. So to stream, you should go to the website and not use the app unless you are on a plane and need the file to be downloaded.

4. Be patient and update your tablet. I believe you need to update this tablet three times before it is fully updated.

5. To get the identical experience as YouTube Vanced, go to the Chrome store and download and install "add block".

6. Don't install apps if you can have full access using the Chrome app, the entire point of having a Chromebook. This also keeps less information on your Hard drive.
That's not how it works. ARM based chromebooks use 32 bit user space running on a 64 bit kernel (for performance and app size reasons). Any single app can only use up to 4 GB but the total system can absolutely use all 8 GB. You can confirm it's running aarch64 here: https://www.chromium.org/chromium...s-devices/
This has a 13.3" screen. A 12.9" iPad Pro is at least $1000. Add the keyboard and you are $1300. If you have $1300 to spend, the Duet 5 is pretty poor in comparison, sure. But it's like 1/3 the price.

Compared to a regular iPad, it still ends up being more expensive if you include the keyboard. And the iPad will only be 10" screen and so the keyboard is very narrow. The iPad also doesn't really work like a laptop, it's still a tablet only OS. If you use the Duet Chromebook with the attached keyboard, it is a regular laptop experience. You can still run a lot of Tablet apps as well. A bit of a balance of both kinds of devices.

Lenovo not a reliable major brand? Tell that to all the businesses using Thinkpads for thousands of employees.

Chromebooks have longer support than iOS (8 years vs 5-6).

iPad will have higher performance on benchmarks, but who is buying a $400 device to edit 8K video or do 3D CAD drawings? Does it matter? What are you going to do on an iPad that you can't do on this processor? The duet is plenty peppy for what it is and what reasonable people will do with it. For most things that aren't benchmark apps, they perform the same. (FWIW I have several iPads in the house as well as the Duet 5)

I think the Duet 5 is for people that want a regular laptop experience for when they need to do school or work, and they they can pull off the keyboard really quick and watch a movie on the couch on a big 13" 16x9 screen.

Supposed to be the same as brand new (in this case, 1-year, but you get the fun fun fun of sending it back to Lenovo). But, after trying it out and checking all is working properly, within the return period (15 days), I'd recommend that you try and register the product online. If the previous owner already registered it, you might have warranty issues or a shorter warranty period.

I've had my eye on this for a couple months, now. Around $300 is my sweet spot and was also able to get an open box from my local BB for $309. The best part is they're shipping it for free, so I don't even have to drive (about 30 min each way) to pick it up. This will be a nice upgrade from my 5 year old Chromebook.

Some, not all. Also some devices only run arm32 and certain android apps are arm64 only (eg call of duty)

pretty sure this one is limited to arm32 Android apps (like the $99 Lenovo 10e)

Yes, though the the intel chromebooks still have the occasionally app that will not run correctly or crash.
I would think this tablet would run andriod apps a bit better since it is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip.
