I have a Samsung S7 Tablet I use with Samsung Dex currently. I've been thinking about how a Chromebook would be more useful. I only use it for media consumption or web browsing. Anyone have any reasons to stick with an S7 or swap over to something like this?
If your intent is to replace a fully functional and high end Android tablet with a Chromebook tablet with a lot less horsepower I would ONLY recommend the switch if android app performance and stability are secondary and the ability to have a desktop-class browsing experience with the flexibility of messing around with a little bit of Android apps and some Linux, then I'd say that's a good decision.

The are some things a Fire HD 10 tablet can do, Android-wise, even with compromised/tacked-on Play Store support versus the highest end Chromebook tablet.

The bottom line is that Chrome OS is great because of it's flexibility and not necessarily for matching the performance of an Android tablet for Android apps if that makes sense.

??? Chrome OS. With updates until June 2029 I think?
Correct. I updated the Duet 5 that I bought to the latest and the android version was still 9, not 11 or even 10. I had other things that I didn't like about it and elected to simply return it.

From google website it appears this gets the same os as the other pixel flagship devices. Is this not the case? I cancelled my order from this morning because I am leery about that processor. 300 is a good deal but it appears that the cpu is kinda slow versus the intel 11th gen, so unless form factor is a concern for you may want to wait.

How does it compare to an i5 Google Pixel Slate both performance and functionality-wise? G.P.S is few years old, but still a powerhouse.

I've had my eye on this with a $300 trigger. 309 is close enough. The closest OLED media device in recent months around this price was that P11 Pro.
Did I the price go up from this morning? Price is currently $399 on eBay.

Not crazy about 1080p on a 13.3". For example the s7+ 12.4 has a horizontal resolution of 1600.

I have an eye for it.
For $309 is this worth it.
My main thing is battery life and Linux.
Also, not really sure I can install Python and Spark on it?

Got one of the 4gb models around Christmas. It's been pretty nice. My teenager uses it for school and media. Really nice quality and form factor. Only real con is it needs a usb-c headphone jack adapter

yes, but it is pretty large for a tablet. If you just want to read, an 8" is easier to hold and gives page size like a fiction book

great battery life, but Linux on chrome is somewhat limited. Wouldn't be my first choice for Linux.

Correct. When I looked at the software after the update, it only showed Android 9 for the Chrome OS. I think the question of whether the chromebook has fast enough CPU really depends on the use case. I thought it was ok for a chromebook, enough capability to multitask.
I ended up switching to a galaxy tab s7+ and it's so far so good. Better than the Duet 5.

Does the screen aspect ration on these seem odd? Was playing with one at Bestbuy. Seemed really nice. Great screen. But seemed much "wider" than any other tablet I've ever seen. Not a deal breaker but a smidge odd. I'm sure I'd get used to it.

The Keyboard is not backlit? That's an issue for some.
