These were clearanced out locally for $10-$15 in the past month. At least around here, many ended up back on shelves after the initial rush...because they're not very good. They don't get cold enough to do anything useful. Several reports of temps around 60 degrees.

These do not get really cold. If temp in the space is about 70, gets it to about 50ish. Not great for beverages. probably good for makeup, medicines, things that need to be cool, but not cold

That's what I always read about these mini fridges. They only cool 10-15 below room temperature. I like my drinks as cold as possible without freezing so a balmy 55-60 degrees is not going to do it.
Always try to go for a compressor mini fridge if you want a small one. They tend to last long and most get extremely cold and have settings to adjust temp.
These little ones I have found to be perfect for fishing bait as you dont need it super cold and also dont have to dirty or stink up the main fridge getting the fishing bait container of worms out of the fridge.

Love mine, got 1 black Friday for around $10, sat back of closet for a year, found it and decided to try it out. Gets icy cold and have to defrost unit occasionally because of ice buildup in back 1xmo. Here's a tip, keep it fully stocked and they tend to keep really cold.
A bit off topic, but I just wanted to say there is a lot of useful and helpful discussion on this thread! Thank you all for helping folks make an informed decision
can these be left in the car with a back up battery (jump start w/ 12 V adapter) for cold water when I get back. Worried about fire safety.
They aren't good for that. They cool to 30-40 below ambient temperature. A car in the sun can heat up more than that. Out of the sun, a bit less, but still hot. Also, it uses more power than a home fridge. I don't know how long you'll be away, but it'll drain a car battery in 12 hours. Compressor refrigerators are larger and more expensive, but this thing is pretty useless.
Yeah these are fan-cooled and not Freon-cooled like a normal fridge or most bigger mini-fridges
Sorry, but these are not "fan-cooled" - these (and all other non-compressor mini fridges in this class) rely on thermoelectric cooling.
Definite pros and cons for each, but thermoelectric generally means you can cool to a less significant magnitude below room temperature - which also means putting these in a small enclosed space isn't a good idea because you're simultaneously heating the air you're actually trying to cool.
