  1. Check this AAA Dell 10% off coupon: https://www.dell.com/en-us/member/lp/aaa
  2. Goto sales page, choose this deal: https://deals.dell.com/en-us/memb...etail/d07z add to cart. or you can choose variety of different game laptops: https://deals.dell.com/en-us/memb...-ascending
  3. If you have Dell Financial account or you can get one with credit approval same day. there is another 5% off on top of the price using coupon: DPA5. other than 12 months interest free, there is 3% more dell rewards.
My reason to recommend this sku:
  • Dell fixed mux switch and cuda cores on 3070, TGP boosted to 130w with BIOS update.
  • RTX 3070 is better to use with QHD screen, G-sync and Advanced Optimus gives you more battery life on the go w/o switch Mux switch to reboot.
  • QHD screen come w/ IR camera support windows hello, it have variety of usage not only for login authentication.
  • 1TB ssd and 16G DDR both are swappable, x15 or m15 r4 before can't swap memory.
  • Intel 11/12 gen have better performance in 1080p games but Ryzen is almost a match for QHD game.
Total will be $1424.42 plus 6% Dell rewards.
If you don't use Dell Financial, Dell rewards is reduced to 3%, and 5% discount also forfeit. but you can use Amex offers and split payment if you have.

ps1: I can't utilize the next day free shipping, it add $48 on total price, check your final price carefully.

ps2: don't buy that 1080p 3070 version [dell.com] for face value of $100 saving, that one doesn't have windows hello support and SSD is half the size.

ps3: if you absolutely want a 1080p screen check that11800h version [dell.com] for it have better 360hz screen w/ advanced optimus and G-sync, plus it also have mechanic per key RGB keyboard. And intel 11gen is better in performance in most games on 1080p.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I wrote up a comparison between the asus zephrus, alienware and the legion 5 pro in the zephrus sale thread. (Sourced from several good review sites):

The big problem with the zephrus and the alienware is their slimmer, lest robust chasis is bad thermals *AVERAGING* 97 or 100C in demanding games and hitting thermal limit/throttling, at least with cpu boost clocks on.

Bought the Intel one for 1690$, and received it in 4 days. Pretty solid laptop. Played horizontal car racing game for almost an hour, the panel still cool. And the fans noise quieter than I expected. I guess this Ryzen will do the same

I sat in production for 10 days on the M4 model and delivery was 5 days late, got $50 credit after refusing a $50 coupon twice.

I bought the m4 variant and ultimately returned it. But I was able to get them to refund me for the 1 year premium service before I returned it. I got something like $120 back on my card.

Additional tip: Contact customer service over chat and haggle the price, asking what their absolute, bottomed-out price is that they're willing to go to. I've done this for all of my Dell purchases and the savings are always worthwhile, considering the effort.

Also for those that are forgetting, there are usually Dell promo codes for AMEX cards that give ~$120 off purchases of $599 or more. You'll just need to do split payments between DPA financing and AMEX. Overall it leads to more savings.

Also FYI - If you have a AMEX you might have the $120 back if you spend $600

Any particular amex card or all?

I have a 17 r4 with i7 6820hk and gtx 1080. I repasted with gallium and the thing is soooo much better. Encoding video with all cores at 100% and the cpu rarely goes over 75 and is almost silent. Gaming at high settings bumps temps up a bit overall, and obviously fan noise levels, but it doesn't throttle. Haven't experimented with undervolting yet.

Also, do they have a 17" model with these specs, or possibly the 5900? Anywhere near this price and I'm sold.

Placed my order this morning and got my tracking number from FedEx a few hours later. It's scheduled for delivery Thursday. So for this configuration, delays might not be an issue.

Tried this and didn't work. I was told it is already discounted for presidents day. Is this just something you have to keep trying?

Gaming with cpu boost enabled (for max cpu Hz/performance) should max the fans during cpu and gpu demand on performance mode for the highest fps possible, so they won't be silent. It's a hot gpu and cpu in a small chasis. None of the top three or 4 in this class of gaming laptop will be silent during that kind of load. You can turn off boost and fiddle with custom settings per game etc but you will probably lose some frame rate. The reviews who's temp quotes I linked stress tested at max performance and they were averaging very high.

I had my legion 5 gaming last night with no undervolt and no fiddling around and it was running about 76 - 82 with a spike of 86 max at one point. I think that 86 it hit briefly was when I had blocked the exhaust fan on the left side port at that point with my hand while messing with my tablet. Idle it's 36C. Those temps were with it on an active low rpm cooling tray. While it was under stress the laptop fans were revving pretty loud but nothing I can't deal with for the performance. I would never call it silent when gaming. All of the reviews show the three I linked at near and over 50 dB when at max stress+performance.

I don't think the thermal paste is a big issue on the legions so idk if I'll bother re-pasting but I'll consider it whenever I install the 32gb ram kit and 2tb secondary ssd I bought to upgrade it.

You can massage a little lower dBA fans and a little less heat but you will prob get a little less performance. The legion is 5 - 10+ fps faster with 140w gpu and the alienware is also relatively high power at ~ 125w. That and the hot cpus at their boost clocks = high heat, high fans, and the thinner chassis and lest robust cooling solution models will throttle unless their performance is tempered.

I do feel as if it's a YMMV thing between representatives. IIRC when I asked for the bottomed-out discount they had to consult another person/team before giving me an answer. I'm not sure if that may have changed since the last time I did it (less than six months ago).

It was worth a shot. Personally I think if you can't get it lower than $1,424 then it might be worth waiting. Dell gives some steep discounts if you can line up some 10%+ cash back specials along with sales, financing specials (I finance with them all the time for zero-interest payments and bigger discounts) as well as AMEX cashback promos. That is, unless you don't feel like waiting any more. Personally I got a 3060 laptop with Dell for ~$950 and I've been really happy with it.
