Browsing thru all the stories and seeing some horror stories makes me wonder if this Pennzoil Rebate program is rigged. I'm sure most will get their rebate but if they do this to even 10% of the people they are cheating and making a bundle.
"Alright, so I called them and asked as I have two in "mailed" status.. It took 42 minutes to get this answer of holding but the lady who answered said that apparently, the vendor had a batch failure for a large group of rebates. She said 3/7 to 3/15 and they are resending them but they've not been told when the end-user will receive it but it should be very soon. I was wrong on my mail date it was actually the 8th because I had to resubmit the receipt(forgot about that). So if you turned to "mail" state from 3/7-3/15 you may be receiving it soon."

If they're going to issue some Shell gift card that can only be used at Shell gas stations then this isn't such a good deal.
I don't know why it's worded so sketchy but since it says 'Digital Gift Card' I would guess a Visa or Mastercard # this time.

You can look at base stocks, you can look at Product Data Sheets for different specs on the oil, you can look at the composition of additives, you can look at used oil analysis from websites like BITOG, etc.
So it's not just a "this one thing makes X oil better than Y" but a combination of factors together. But, the biggest factor is going to be OCIs with a decent quality oil (API SP and/or GF6 and/or DEXOS licensed). If anyone does a reasonable OCI (3-5k) with an SP/GF6/DEXOS licensed oil, it will last them pretty much the life of the vehicle. Above that, it's personal preference to mess around with different oils. For example, depending on the weight, Pennz Plat is generally considered at the lighter end of the scale for certain weights. So, in an engine that has oil dilution, if you want to stay in grade, let's say 0W20, you might dilute the oil and then it goes out of 20 grade. But, let's say for instance, you had a thicker 0W20 or one that was more resistant to oil dilution, it might stay in grade whereas another oil didn't....so on and so forth.
The biggest key is changing the oil.

Yep, figured this would either be a physical or a digital Shell gift card based on how others responded. So, definitely not a deal as far as I'm concerned since Shell gas is typically overpriced compared to other top tier options I have; e.g., Costco.
