The most common reason is because the stores don't accept coupons. But there were times when the coupons didn't cover what the customers thought the coupons should cover (e.g. $6.99 footlong coupon on a double-meat fancy sub).
The workers never did anything but put the sandwiches aside, then went on their business.
The closest Subway actually accepts EXPIRED coupons. It's great !
