I've never had any Seagate troubles before this drive.

On several PC's, using USB 3.0, the Seagate One Touch 5TB is showing approx (from Crystal DiskMark 1GB test): https://i.imgur.com/0lGhDUA.jpg
Read: 124.24 MB/s
Write 57.96 MB/s
For comparisons sake a 5TB Seagate Backup Plus Hub (3.5 inch) desktop external HDD purchased years ago from Costco gets; Read 130 - Write 76.6. A several year old 2.5 inch WD Blue HDD gets; Read 97.58 - Write 69.71 in an external USB 3.0 Ineteck enclosure. An older 1TB Seagate Backup Plus USB 3.0 drive gets; Read: 89.13 - Write 90.44. So, the read values from this 5TB Seagate One Touch are good, it's the write speed that is less than stellar when compared to other drives on my PC's. Likely due to this drive being SMR. That WD Blue drive was marginally better in the write department but worse in the read department than this Seagate drive. Go figure.
Seems the general consensus seems to be many if most of the larger 2.5 inch HDD external drives are SMR these days.
Some general comments about this drive:
Crystal DiskInfo results of the 5TB Seagate One Touch: https://i.imgur.com/7MYj85s.jpg
The 5TB Seagate One Touch comes out of the box formatted for exFAT. The drive out of the box has two partitions on it. a 200MB EFI(FAT32) partition and the main exFAT partition with a total capacity of 4657.3GB. The product insert / user manual does state: "Mac: For Time Machine, the hard drive must be formatted for HFS+ for Mac." Something to be aware of if you are a Mac Time Machine user.

Edit to add: Just ran an other Crystal Disk Mark test on the drive and got much better write results and previously.

I primarily bought it for photo backup and no issues whatsoever.
Of course, YMMV.
Hard drives don't like to be dropped and shipping isn't always gentle hence half of drives failing. traveling it will kill spinning drives.
This COSTCO Seagate isn't really a good deal. You can get $44 WD 4TB drives at WD eBay. Got one, usually 50 left.
Get a in store, ssd online, cheapest ebay WD

I have Seagate drives that I've been bulletproof and ones that have failed. I've had western digital drives that I've been bulletproof and ones that have failed. I have found no brand is significantly better than the other. Sometimes you get unlucky, sometimes you're lucky.

Mind you, I think this drive was a similar price a couple years ago, I wish prices were going down, but .. they don't seem to be for now. From this point forward it's a question whether inflation will outpace innovation or not.
