For the large bowls, if adding to the brim with broth, then you have to stick your thumb in the bowl like they do at Pho restaurants. (jk) It will require two hands underneath; for noodles/pasta/rice/salad, you can hold them from the side. They are hefty, but I wouldn't say they are heavy...unless you are moving a stack.
The nice thing about ceramic is that when they break, the shards are not super sharp like glass.
I have all Corelle dishware and can confirm. These are some sort of polycarbonate glass, and they absolutely shatter when they break. I was washing dishes one day and had a Corelle plate at the bottom of the sink waiting to be rinsed. I was rinsing off a small quart-sized Pyrex bowl just above the plate, but it was slippery and I dropped it. Pyrex went no more than a few inches down, onto the plate. The plate broke into 30+ pieces.
Corelle is good but has high fracture tension. They will all disintegrate into fine glass shards if they happen to break.
Was it an in-store only offer? I checked online and the Walmart near me shows the same 4 pc for $44.54 and it's sold out. And target online doesn't have this set either.

It won't get hot because of the microwave but if there is food touching the surface of where you put your hand, it does get very hot cause it's thin. It doesn't have an edge at the bottom so it's hard to carry/ pickup hot food around if you fill it up
