"Safe" is a relative term. No metal knife that's ever existed should go through a dishwasher if you care about it. If you don't care about it, then go for it.

Any knife that advertises being "dishwasher safe" is admitting that it's a cheap POS and that no one should care about keeping it sharp (and there's nothing wrong with that! Just know what to expect!)

I worked for Macys for 3 years in their house wares department these are the "I'm going to buy them because I literally can't afford anything else and know absolutely nothing about knives set" honestly save the money and buy your knife set one knife at a time. That or buy these for someone to let them know how little you care about them believe me they will get the hint with these.

Here are some budget-friendly knives from Tramontina. I have been using their knives for a long time. (No - I don't benefit from their sales).

Sorry didn't ge the notification of the reply, personally if it were for me I would buy a Shun(sora is cheap but decent, prefer classic) , wustof(classic but I love ikon too),, global(only ever used the one they have a pro line up but never used it), two man henckels( never used henckels everyone I know that has one swears by them), one knife at a time prioritizing first an 8" chef then and paring then honing steel and knife block then utility knife then santoku then bread or slicing knife then slicing or bread knife(whatever you didn't get before) and that's a perfect set that will cover you and if you want to get fancy some kitchen shears
