Seems like a deal, camels say this is the lowest price in 2 yrs, thanks to Amazon pricing weirdness the red one is $100 less than the identical blue or black model, so you gotta like red I guess.

so: why do I need this? Not trying to be a smartass here, I'm really looking for someone to tell me what they use this for that says I need one. I've already got a lot of things that turn raw food into cooked food - what does this do that the others can't? Or what does it do better?

I feel the same way. I know I don't "need" it but it seems like a cool idea and the reviews are good. It's probably going to sit on my shelf the next 5 years and not be used at all though

They are pushing it for braising. But a good braiser requires a good moisture conserving lid. Reviews mention this lid rusts. Best lids in general are French c.i. enamel lids.

PIC portable induction + L.C. 24 cm ( 4-1/2 qt ) is far more versatile. This gives me an excellent 24 cm lid use on the 24 cm Proline and other 24 cm stainless.

28 cm - 11" is probably the upper limit weight wise if swinging the lid around much.

It heats from the bottom just like a regular dutch oven on a stove top and the stainless Instant Pot. All of these can go in the oven as well. I don't see the advantage of this over a ceramic coated cast iron other than being a fancy slow cooker and it doesn't replace the Instant Pot.
