I would assume that from starting from today, for a ddr5 5600mhz 32gb kit, every day the price will drop by 1 dollar on average, till it slows down around $200 and every body will go for 6400 CL32 kit for the new standard by end of year. AMD zen 4 will probably debut with 5600mhz support by default.

I suppose if you have money to burn this isn't a bad deal, however, I personally don't think DDR5 is worth the money at this time.

Yeah, I can't imagine any system being bottlenecked by the RAM, even very high end systems. I could be wrong, but spending more than *triple* the price on something almost guaranteed to have a negligible at best effect just seems excessive.

DDR5 will be the only option for Zen 4 when it launches, so let's hope it drops to reasonable levels by ~Q3.

Ha, constrained DDR5 from these folks! I'm surprised you don't have to buy a PC case and a PSU with it too.

It will have to drop or zen 4 won't sell.

DDR5 will also be required for Intel too. Right now, the new Intel can support DDR4 but most will pair with DDR5.

It's expected to drop. Even in the worst case scenario Zen 4 would sell in OEM systems. They are already not paying the ridiculous markups on DDR5.

I wonder how true that really is when the performance difference is often so small, early DDR5 is lower quality (same as other generations), DDR4 can be ripped out of an older system, etc.

Alder Lake users should be able to use Raptor Lake with DDR4 on their motherboards.

The article you listed says the same thing. That for the interim, ddr4 is supported but Intel is pushing manufacturers to dump ddr4 for upcoming motherboards. Manufacturers don't keep old motherboards on the market indefinitely.

Like Alder Lake, Raptor Lake will support both DDR4 and DDR5. AMD miscalculated not having a DDR4 option with Zen 4.

Perhaps z690 DDR4 boards will go up in value given they'll be the last DDR4 boards to support the latest CPU. I don't think it's worth spending 2-3x more on DDR5 at the moment.

AMD did not miscalculate. When zen 4 debut with higher than 4800mhz ram(most probably 5600mhz) and Intel is still on ddr4. All the marketing and benchmarks you will see are going to be biased towards AMD. That's why intel is also pushing ddr5 for Raptor lake. DDR5 price will be falling freely in the next quarter, and continue into Q3.
