Almost thought this the other day. I have a plunge route from Bosch i think? But also a bunch of makita tools. Just need something that i can handle easier to trim veneer and cut small holes in speaker baffles. Excited to add this little guy to my garage.
These are likely flooding the market before Makita brings in the (redundant) 40v version.
It'll be 3x this price, and be completely identical but have a bit more speed/torque .
It's the worst mistake Makita has made in years... they should've at least tweaked a few things on it. And with all the uneeded boost to speed and torque, they still made it a ¼" ???? This is a huge mistake on makita by only changing the battery platform. And motor.
The 18v wad perfectly strong... I mean, no one is working raised panel bits on these??? The compact style ¼" is plenty strong if you aren't using 💩 bits.
I mean, the biggest bit might be a ½" round over, but most people use these with spiral (or compression) bits, or edge finishing bits.
If they made it ½" I'd be knee deep in pre-order receipts. And then, and only then would it justify increased torque/speed.
I fear makita is hopping on the "MoAr ToRqUe!!! = Better" train to Dingusville. A router requires precision. Especially a ¼" router. If you need "MoAr ToRqUe" then you are using it wrong, or you need to get better quality (or new/sharp) bits.
I wish Hikoki wasn't the only ½" cordless router... them (and the US 36v version from HPT) are plagued with issues.
My apologies for another TedTalk, but with so many tool brands cheapening, or just not trying, in the toil industry, I felt we could at least count on Makita to not sell out. But, after seeing the large numbers of the ne xgt router sold in Asia and Australia, it seems Makita is jus5 following in the footsteps of those idiots over there that fall for this gimmick.

Not the Lowest price, as they were $79 at FastenersInc for this past holiday. (I stocked up, but they ended up selling out fast.)
