Good point, did not realize there are two disk writing styles. Quick Google says CMR is better suited for lots of writes like data backups, where as SMR it slightly more power efficient but better suited for lots of reads like a media server

SMR is cheaper, but otherwise not suited more to anything.

It's not more power efficient. Probably the opposite when used for random writes (because it would be busy longer while writing). But I'd guess the difference isn't significant.

It's okay for uses where there aren't a lot of random writes. Writing large files would be okay too.
I'm not sure why WD calls it a NAS drive ("Red"), because that may involve a lot of random writes.

I want to put 2 similar drives in a desktop and duplicate each time I upload files.
Is this good enough?

Thanks

Yes. And this is one of the best prices in the last 90 days.

Great drives. Quiet and I've had no issues with mine for the past year.

Just make sure it's the CMR drive and not the one linked to in the title of this thread.

Western Digital matches the price but I have a 12% cashback from Paypal. Not sure if it works but Paypal Deals has 12% cashback.

I read some feedback on their site just now. They ship with no protection. Bad shipping practices. You need protection for OEM bare drives. If you have to RMA any DOAs and want an exchange you will get a refurb as a replacement.
