So in this weird economy, sometimes a deal is just "they haven't gotten around to jacking up the price on this yet." This is one of those deals. Refrigerant prices have skyrocketed in recent months, and with summer approaching I suspect it's going to be a long hot one.

If you need r134a, Walmart (at least in my area) still has it for $4.88 for a 12oz can. This could be YMMV, but it's this price and in stock in all of the stores around me. This was an OK deal last summer, but I could buy a 12 pack for $39.98 + shipping at Sam's, which was even better. That same 12 pack now costs $99.98 + shipping. I'm seeing prices ranging from $7.50ish at AutoZone to over $11 per can at other places.

I found this link that works for stores in my area, when using Walmart's internal search feature won't.

Walmart's price was a good deal even last year. I bought a case of it when I heard that R-134a was going to be phased out. I'll be driving cars with R-134a for another 20 years. (I still have half a tank of R-12 in my garage.)

Ha, I could have written the same exact thing. On a related note, I just added 2.3 oz into my 13 year old car. Its first time ever a/c service. Weigh those cans. These new systems fail after just a couple of lost ounces. The old days of cranking in a whole can are long gone. A case (24) of this stuff is a lifetime supply. Probably overkill.

My store isn't supposed to carry this at all, we just had 2 individual units come in for no reason. Likely why it's so cheap

$8.88 a can where I live.

Wish I could still get for less than $5 a can.

I noticed it's $8.88 in my area the other day when I was at Walmart. I had to look at the description on the shelf's price tag to make sure it wasn't misplaced. I knew it would go up like everything else, but I was a bit surprised by an 80% jump. I bet Walmart locked the price in with a long-term contract with the supplier that has now run out.

What do you think electric vehicles use for refrigerant?

Grabbed a few cans today. Plenty of both the short stubby can and the tall slender can on the shelf (same amount of product in each, but different UPC) scanned at 8.88 each, but over a dozen shelf tags said 5.37 each with no mention of 8.88.

The CSR at the self checkouts was happy to override down to the 5.37 price.

one word: WALMART cr-p! .Ok, 2 words--should be made just one word.
Bought a can of this Walmart brand .before and went home,

i have done many refills over 2 decades nevertheless i usually reread the instructions to do a re fill. Looked on the back of the Walmart brand, the instructions were all blurred.
Then, when i went to use, maybe 1/8 th of the can's refrigerant came out and the can plugged up.
Returned the can. Money back. The 1/8th got me thu the rest of the summer so got something for my time and energy and aggravation.
