Infinity. Cheaper and better sound for me. It was amazing to see how many people said the JBL was insanely good. For me it was or I didn't have it set up correctly. Some songs played like people described and then the next was super bland and boring. I could not get used to them. That's why I never opened the 520c.
I got the 590. I almost got the 580, after seeing the zeos panthera video and the comments here, I left thinking they're too big. Then I actually got the tape measure and they're actually smaller in depth than my current set, and just a couple inches taller and wider. The 580 would be smaller in all dimensions.
Those youtubers with gopros, everything is distorted, can't judge size at all.
There are tons of centers that are better, emotiva c2+, klipsch 504c come to mind.
Before buying any center I would try phantom center with these, they're amazing with phantom center. Something about this design just excels at phantom center.
I'm using 4 509 towers and phantom center, while I have two new 504c in boxes still and planning on keeping it this way. Voices aren't just stuck center screen with phantom center, they pan all across the screen and track with movement perfectly.

Agree 1000%.
People get conned into buying center speakers.
Somehow speaker salespeople and marketing/advertising people at speaker companies have convinced the public that if they don't buy a center speaker, they are actually losing audio! Sad.
If you sit in front of your display (between your left/right mains) and you don't need to turn up the dialogue volume, a center speaker is almost always optional.
The common center speaker with the two woofers and single tweeter all on the same horizontal plane is a terrible design that creates lobing.
*IF* you decide you need a center speaker, use an identical speaker that you are using as your main speakers. That is the gold standard. If that isn't an option, choose a center that has more vertically aligned drivers.
Which would you get, and why? (I.e. why should I buy them 🙂 no audio system, but want to get into it)
Here is my take & opinion/suggestion:
You are on the right track looking for speakers 1st, they are thee biggest contributor to the sound you hear.
I would suggest getting the 530's, why?
They are the least expensive which makes it the cheapest way to find out if their sound is as good as you read, to you.
Your 1st impression will be the truest IMO.
If you find they are not your personal taste, much easier to return them rather than the others. There isn't much sound signature difference between them so you will get a really good idea if the others will be to your preference also.
If you find you like it you just wait for the next sale which happens regularly and get the 580/590 and center. Keep in mind the 520C is the major weak link here IMO and many go after Infinity's RC263 instead.
Does not pop up on sale often and when it does it goes extremely fast because of this reason.
You could even give this phantom opinion/theory that some people believe works for them while you wait. You may find you believe it also and won't even need a center.
If you don't have an amp just buy an inexpensive used one off CL or offerup.
You had one person post a link to a tiny cheap $80 amp he uses on the 590's and he believes it sounds amazing as an example.

Amazing for such a low price, if all one needs is a basic amp. Not amazing as it in makes everything better obsolete.
The sound quality is about that of your average AVR.
I wish I could find something that sounds better and sips power on my off grid solar system like the a07, but no luck so far.
I noticed jbl is now selling these 5 series speakers direct on ebay at the same prices as on their website, I don't think I've seen this before. Someone at corporate must be saying we need to move the last of these speakers.

Yes that's my point if he read those past rave reviews often when someone that finally listened to them and found they didn't sound as amazing or to their personal taste as they read, they are told they need some high current amp to do so.
Many times this comes from someone that hasn't even listened to them.
If you read back on those threads these have been discontinued for some time and they are on there way out then also.
IMO they just don't pop up as usual for the same reason everything else isn't right now.
After getting a call from the shipper postponing delivery for the 3rd time (590s are "Still in Salt Lake City for the past 7 days"), I refused shipment and the speakers will head back to the warehouse. When they get them back, I was told I would get my refund. Which by now it probably should be by September, as it will be the shipper lowest priority...UGH.
