Similar thing happened to me. I'd usually let it go to voicemail or politely say I'm good and hang up. But once they called me at like 8pm on a Sunday night and I went off on the guy. I told him this was harassment and if they ever called me again I'd never buy another thing from their company. That was over a year ago and since then I haven't gotten another call lol

I'd go for the gold top Epiphone Les Paul for 399.

The strat is cool too, but they go $200 cheaper on adorama all the time.

Those are way too many factors for a beginner to understand right away lol. Gotta know how to play to truly get a feel of the different necks.

Really just comes down to budget and with the deal examples listed, they'd be overkill but all pretty much great guitars.

I disagree; in my experience of helping beginners (friends and family) try out different guitars in a store, they can quickly pick up on what feels comfortable to their hands and body.

Guitar body shape, neck profile, weight/balance, and looks are all important to a beginner's comfort and motivation and I believe they can make decisions on those -- as well as budget -- without knowing how to play.

Interesting; I know with myself when I was choosing my first electric guitar way back between an LP with a chunky rounded D neck, or an LTD EC-1000 with a super slim neck, I felt the bigger neck was much more comfortable so I got the LP and learned on that for a couple years.

Couple years later when I wanted another guitar I tried ones with the slim necks again and holy moly, I could play so much faster and it just felt more right lol, so I got a Tele. Complete 180 of how I felt before, and I've stuck to thinner necks ever since.

Other players I know told me they went through the same thing but I guess everyone's different, how one feels with a guitar initially won't always be how they feel later, and sometimes it will lol. Def agree with you on the body shape, looks and weight though.

I highly recommend Ibanez Axion line. I've owned one with the S body and played the RGA and RGD. All flawless as far as I could tell. The specs are pretty close to $2k Prestige models. The finishes, QC, and frets are where the two lines diverge. The model listed here has Bare Knuckle Aftermath pickups which are great for modern metal and other heavy genres. Great price considering the market, and if it's your style it absolutely blows the fender player series out of the water.

If you're a beginner and want a fender without the price tag I'd recommend the higher end Squier models (classic vibe) or a G&L tribute. Definitely play before you buy and look for sharp fret ends and buzzing on the neck.

I agree 100%.. and even said the same thing when I decided to pick up the guitar a few months ago.. but these online deals were too tempting and I gambled. Luckily I got incredible deals on two guitars I absolutely adore. The Gretsch Electric and the recent Solid Body Martin Acoustic.

Totally fair! Maybe the LP was better for you as a beginner (playing a lot of cowboy chords possibly) and then the thin necks fit your intermediate/advanced style better.

Assuming you actually play it, you likely won't ever sell it since it is good enough to perform or record with and not so crappy that you would be compelled to upgrade it.

The Mitchell 450 is on sale for $199 at musician's friend too, down from $399. You get a bunch of features you would usually only find on more expensive guitars like coil tapping on the humbuckers, locking tuners, a set neck, binding on the body, flamed maple top, custom neck inlays, and a string-through body. They say on MF in the description that they come with a setup and D'Addario strings on them. For $200, that's the best deal on a guitar on the internet right now.
