Newegg.com[newegg.com] has Intel Core i5-12600K 12th Gen Alder Lake Desktop Processor on sale for $229.94 when you apply coupon code SPECC50. Shipping is free.
Wow, even cheaper than Microcenter which is ...odd... but they do have the $20 mobo discount. Yeah yeah I know, MC isn't on every corner. This price from Newegg is pretty decent for shipped.
13th Gen does not appear to be a huge improvement; as going from 11th Gen to 12th Gen was. Also the 13th Gen is faster but it comes at a cost of increased power requirements when compared to the 12th Gen. Unlike, the 12th Gen which was faster but had decreased power requirements when compared to the 11th Gen.
Hold on. Claimed 15% increase single thread and 40% multithread seems HUGE in terms of sheer performance increase.
I think this is a situation where the coupon isn't supposed to apply. It says "$50 off w/ promo code SPECC50 only apply to select combo, limited offer" and clicking the link brings it to an overpriced $500 combo with a mobo. Looks like they forgot to make it work only with the mobo in the cart.
it's it crazy that the old sandy bridge can still keep up in 2022?
It cant. This is about 300-350% faster in general tasks, and way way faster in accelerated tasks like encoding/decoding or instructions like AVX2.
Anyways this is a steal at this price. $230 is cheaper than Microcenter, and same price as the 5600x while way outperforming it (12600k is a tiny bit better than a 5800x).

I believe cpu benchmark shows the real world / effective speed of +46% over 2500k. So that's definitely something. The cheapest system upgrade for me from my sandy bridge system is still about $525, so it's hard to justify for me yet. Rocking a Gtx 950 still haha

Any reason you're leaning toward this particular chip? Any good mobo at low price?
No cooler included so add +$25 minimum
