!!!! WARNING !!!!
I have 7 of these and they are VERY prone to misfiring, usually at the late hours of the night/early morning. I've replaced 4 in the past only to find out that a can of compressed air usually solves the misfiring. If you read the reviews there is a consistent pattern of this.

I run these in HomeKit via Homebridge. In hindsight, I would avoid these and go with a standard smoke detector from Costco.

I'll throw in my 2-cents in that I've had two of these for a few years now and have not had any issues with them using them through SmartThings. One from 2016 and one from 2017. I've been very happy with them. Maybe the older ones were better?

Good price compared to what I paid for them back then.

Bought 9 of these in 2019 and have them connected via ring. Never had them "misfire", nor has anyone else i know that has them (purchased around the same time). Got all mine from costco. Batteries last around a year in mine, though i don't remember the mah they are (rechargeables).

I have set the kitchen one off a few times from olive oil smoke.

I had these a while back paired with my alarm system and there were two times when they went off in the middle of the night and my automated monitoring called the fire department, needless to say, it was a miserable experience. I currently use Ring, but also have Smartthings. I may consider pairing these up to my Smartthings to notify me, because the thought of having the fire department show up from false alarms is awful.

I have 8 of these, installed 4 years ago. Had 4 or 5 misfires. Batteries have to be replaced once per year as they don't last too long in these and they do not talk to each other (no interconnect). And they're just fugly. If I was to do it again, I'd go with regular wired alarms and added a smart sound detector.

Firefighter here. Central station monitoring is a good thing. We'd rather answer the occasional accidental activation than face a fully engulfed home with spreading because no one called us.

Obviously, if we visit your home twice a week because of this, we'll want to have a conversation - otherwise, my statement stands Smilie

OP You may want to edit the post and omit the words "2nd Generation" I have a couple of these on my Ring Alarm 1st Gen and they work perfectly.

. This is exactly why I disconnected mine from Ring and paired with SmartThings.

The 2nd gen is for the smoke alarm. The first gen isn't plus and doesn't have standardized zwave properties. They should be avoided at this point.I had a few that worked OK on smartthings with a custom device handler but when I went to Home Assistant I sold them and got the 2nd gen as they work much better. Speaking solely in terms of the zwave part.

I've had five of the first gens, and four of them have failed with increasing false alarms. I live on a dirt road, and have extreme dust issues. My understanding is the model I have uses a photocell or similar to detect smoke, and as it gets dusty/dirty it just always thinks there's smoke.
