Litter Champ, far and away blows Litter Genie out of the water.

It's so much less expensive to use.
Much larger area to scoop into or open it at the top.
A removable bag cutter in it,
A handle on top.

Even being free, it will cost you much more yearly to use.
If you are on the fence just because of the free item, pass on it.

You keep the plastic ring and just use regular 13 gallon scented trash bag you get from Costco or Sam's to wrap from the top. I never have to buy their proprietary bags. Won't take you longer than a minute to change it.

Yep, hit YouTube, tons of videos show how to use regular garbage bags with it. That's what I do.

I just use the plastic bucket the litter comes in, then dump it in the trash can in the alley.

Hello friends! Forgetting about the litter genie for a moment... how would you rate this litter? Is it a good value? I just started using the Special Kitty 40# (Clumping) from Walmart @ $10.99...

With 4 cats I go thru lots... looking for the best performance/value ratio.

Never used this brand...

Orrrrrrrr stick a cheap kitchen trash can on back patio that has a closing/locking lid with a regular sized kitchen trash bag, scoop litter box and dump in that outside trash can. When it's half way full or little more, take it once to main trash can for city to collect. Less trips and smell is outside the house. Plus less bags to use.

Works awesome and I have raccoons and animals out back that never bother it.

With just one cat, Dr. Elsey's is the best litter I found before switching to an automatic litter box and crystal litter. At about $18-20 a bag, I used about one bag a month. Keep the litter deep enough to catch everything before it hits the pan, scoop daily or twice a day, and there was almost no need to dump the entire pan, just replace the litter that got scooped.

I keep a bag of Dr. Elsey's and a regular pan for travel and backup purposes.

I don't recommend the crystal litter route - less scooping, but it gets stinky fast, I have to replace a four pound bag about every five days. Older cat, high humidity environment.

Will any trash can do? The nearest alley is like a mile away

I have used only Elsey's. We are more of a Clean Tracks flavor family though- the regular one was a bit dusty for us

I get where you're coming from with replacement bag prices. Specialized additional consumables is always how these business models get you (litter genie or litter champ). But it looks like you can use cheap and often on sale regular garbage bags with Litter Genie quite effectively. So that being said is there anything else to your arguement that would counter that aspect?

Link of random video of using regular bags for reference:

It's not just the bags. The way you can open the litter Champ vs the litter genie to scoop directly into the bag is night and day.
I can press a button the front of the litter champ and have a 8" wide opening to scoop into if I want to.
The litter champ has a handle on top, and I can carry it around easier.
I can put about 30% more in the litter champ than the litter genie before emptying.
The litter champ is way easier to clean.

I can if I so choose to also use a trash bag in place of the liners as well. But for convenience I use the pull bags they sell.

Side by side comparison.

Your clear main point was that is much cheaper to use and that you would be spending more over time with this one. But that's based on assuming you use either proprietary bags. If you do not use either systems proprietary bags (which is probably a good idea), that's irrelevant.

Litter Genie seems easy enough to use and wide enough and everything else you mentioned seem like minor conveniences. Like, I don't see the need of a handle to carry it around the house when it makes sense to just keep it by the litter box you use it at.

I honestly don't care about some minor perks that don't really matter much, unless the products are comparable in price. In this case the genie is much cheaper so those things are irrelevant to me.

To me, the differences are far from minor in the real world and not hypothetical. If you haven't used both, I can easily see why it doesn't make sense to you. Once you have used both, I believe your opinion would be drastically different.

I have used regular trash bags, and grocery store bags in a litter genie. It's a pain in the a**.

Do what is best for you.

Can confirm. Upgraded from Genie Litter to Litter Champ and it's a beast.

I've used a Litter Genie in the past, it's a PITA! Small opening is the biggest annoyance. I used regular garbage bags with a 3rd party ring adapter, that was worth it to save money.

I ended up ditching the Litter Genie and bought a small dog food storage container that has a tight seal. It works great.

Just want to echo that the Litter Champ is far superior to the Litter Genie.

I get the Purina Tidy Cat litter form Walmart. I have four cats and one week's worth of scooping fills the plastic pail. I used to use another brand, but the price is about the same for the weight. Since the Tidy Cat container is bigger, there is plenty of room for the dirty litter. There is only a brief moment of bad smell (sometimes) when the lid is opened to add more dirty litter. After it's full, it goes out on the street for trash pickup. Easy, and no extra cost.
