I logged into my Verizon FiOS account (via iOS app) and much to my surprise received an offer for an upgrade to 300/300 from 200/200 for the same monthly price of $39.99 and no change in terms (no contract with autopay). I am based in PA, US. The only hardline competition locally for me is Comcast Xfinity with some coverage for T-Mobile 5G broadband (which may be influencing the offer).
I did not receive a mailer either physically or electronically. This simply came up as an option when I clicked on Internet—>Upgrade my speed. Granted I had already been receiving speeds above 200/200 prior to the upgrade, but this formalizes it.
Autopay via bank account or debit card is required, at least for my account.

New customer offers are almost always better than current customer offers. You'd need to cancel and sign up under another person's name (spouse, roommate).
I live in NYC too and came from Spectrum. Lol it's night and day switching over to Fios. Speed is always consistent with Fios around 300~ for upload and download. As for the router, I bought the TP Link wifi 6 AX1800 (Archer AX21) and it works perfectly fine. Trust me. Just do it.

The reality is though for most homes, that extra money you spend on a gigabyte connection just ends up being wasted money.
