True, but I've been using 512GB on my laptops for years. With cloud storage and super light & portable external SSDs a large internal drive really isn't necessary. In fact, I keep mine barely 1/2 full. All my editing is done on externally cased M.2 NVME SSDs.

Personally, I never buy AppleCare for anything. Between my credit cards extended warranty and Costcos I've never been caught holding the bag. I think AC is kind of a racket because even after you buy the "warranty" if you ever have a claim you have to pay a deductible too. So it's really more of an insurance plan than extended warranty. The one plus it has is that it covers accidental damage, but as klutzy as I am, I've never accidentally damaged a computer of any kind.

I have had a few things go wrong with products covered by AppleCare and I only had to pay a deductible on things that were physical breakage due to my carelessness.

Example: Swollen laptop battery, no deductible. Wife washed AirPods in jeans pocket, had to pay a small deductible.

you bring up a good point, now that I think about it the only thing taking massive amounts of space is really just games on my ssd's. I guess my point is really geared towards how cheap expandable memory has gotten, external or not. always a win for everyone!

Agree, it's worth to get it from Costco. Usually it's $50 or more cheaper than the regular price.

I got my 2019 MacBook Pro 15" serviced back in 2021 summer (They replaced keyboard, put in a new battery with a heating pipe) for FREE. I would imagine Apple would charge $300 or more for the repair.

Too bad I got a MacBook Air M1 (8GB/512GB) from Costco for $800 ish after discount and Costco coupon last summer, so will wait for next-gen M2 model....

Right but battery swell is a defect that would be covered 100% by a CC's or Costco's extended warranty w/ no deductible too.

I'm surprised you had to pay a deductible for the AirPods. I've had to exchange a few pairs, possibly b/c of water damage (sweat), and they just swap them out for me under the original warranty. But if it was in "year two" then the better thing would be to file a claim to your CC and then avoid the deductible.

It looks like the costco trade in partner is giving a good value compared to apple trade in. Issue is you have to mail it in and wait for the gift card, so it is a no go on my end.

Example is my mac mini giving $460 at apple vs $775 at costco.
