Same here. I'm very heavily leaning toward the new 12th Gen i7-12700H. However, no way am I going to afford a 3080 in the newer laptops. If this had the 3080 in 16GB and Gigabyte was good with BIOS updates and their gaming software since reading the reviews it looks like they have issues with Thunderbolt 4 and their gaming control panel with Battle.net and Riot Vanguard. I would really look into this one, I want a 17" but with specs like this and if $100 off line you said, but for sure $200 cheaper with a 3080 then 90% sure I'd go with this and be happy with it for years to come.
Otherwise I have the 165w bios flashed and it's a potential monster! No hiccups thus far there.
Oh but battery life is a complain! But can be improved with simple tasks.
Get this or the Asus Advantage that just came out with the 5980 and 6800m with supposed great battery life being amd on top of it, if not this one.
Also, rebate shouldn't count towards final price for various reasons.

Moral of the story rebates like from all manufactures are annoying, but those with patience eventually get their reward. I have never not received a newegg rebate.

Yep. It can game pretty decently at 4k, too (even with modern titles), especially if they support DLSS. Honestly DLSS is the main thing that puts Nvidia above AMD. Ray-tracing is cool and all, but DLSS really is a godsend if you're gaming at 4k. The mobile 3080 has equivalent performance to a desktop 3060ti, btw.
I7 processor is known to bottleneck 3070 and up gfx cards though
Ddr4 memory
3080 Gfx card is good, again bottlenecked by up to 30% by the I7.
Rebate to deal with....
For 300 more could get the Asus Strix from Amazon, lose 16gb ram but gain mux switch, I9, and a much cooler look. No rebate.
This is competitive at price point though, for sure
