I bought a larger battery for my D4 from amazon for around $45 after using it heavily for 2 years.
Of all the negatives one could have with a robot vacuum, two years of battery life isn't one of them. That's a pretty great amount of utility out of a battery. And they're not that expensive to replace.
This is a great deal. But, with the new generation of robot vacuums beginning to have the auto-empty feature, it's tough to go with one of these without that feature.

I had the D5. I found that the Neato's design and suction were superior to the Roomba I7. However they are notorious to fail, which mine was a victim of as well. Would recommend extended warranty if available.
I've found the same. And unfortunately I'll move on from Neato when my D6 dies. The failures were always an issue, but by buying at Bed Bath and Beyond that was covered with their excellent replacement/return protection. But now that that's not a thing, I'll try another brand. I'm trying to hold out until the auto-empty feature comes down in price on some of the Chinese ones.

Neato battery will last 2 years then die completely. After that you'll have to replace the expensive battery every year. Not worth it.

We've owned 3 neato's in the past 4 years and will not buy another. 2 D3's and 1 D5.

1st D3 lasted 2 years, lidar died, replaced lidar, motherboard died 3 months later, new battery yearly.

2nd D5 lasted 18 months, motherboard died, replaced, lidar died 1 month later, new battery at end of 1st year.

3rd D3, currently own (gave to grandma), she uses it 1x week and has owned it for about 8 months.

Neato does not sell replacement parts and wasn't easy to deal with. We now own a Roomba I4 (Costco) and an I8 (Costco). We went Roomba for 2 reasons, they sell replacement parts on their website and they are camera based navigation. After having the lidar die and costing 90 dollars to replace, cameras rarely if ever die. The neato's did suck up more stuff on our hard floors. I like the Roomba's way more. In the 1 year we have had the I4/I8, between the 2 of them, they have only failed to vacuum 1 time total. They have never once got stuck. We vacuum daily FWIW.

I am not saying Roomba's are the best, I am saying Roomba's having replacement parts for almost any part that can fail, they even sell wheels. I trust a camera over lidar for reliability. The Roomba's are super easy to take apart and clean. I will not buy another Lidar based robot, even if they navigate more efficiently.

I still own the X-21 model I bought seven years ago. It had been used three times a week for almost three years. I liked it over Roomba because of the algorithm. Roomba wanders around the house whereas Neato does it like what human would do. Roomba could have improved during these years. I have stopped using it regularly for the past four years as I don't have pets anymore but it is still working fine. Hopefully I am still able to buy the battery if it dies.

D8 is now out of stock.

Have a D4 as replacement after a D6 broke during height of pandemic. One floor mapping limit on that is awful. Battery cannot finish regular run without charging halfway through.

I'm not really sure about it. If you have pets, or long hair you will still have to clean that up on the brushes almost every 2 or three runs. Also keeping the filters clean is a must every couple of runs. So the take care of it every 3 months is not at all true. I personally, considering the above, plus the size of those things, think is better now to grab the ones without it. Emptying the bins takes 20 seconds.

The D8 is not an upgrade from the d4 d6 and d7 line. You need a whole new app, the navigation spins on itself so it struggles to find the no go zones which on the new app require perfect rectangles, so no more angles no go lines. I would avoid a D8 if you had previous Neato robots. Plus the D8 battery life is super short and the batteries are not plug and play with previous gen. The brushes and filters seem plug and play though.

Yep, I got a neato d5 and it randomly stopped working after 2 years of light use. Had a completely useless error message that was impossible to debug. Got stuck all the time too. Never getting a neato again with the other better brands out there. Currently loving my roborock s4 max of 6 months, hopefully it holds up over time.
Had a d5 for years and it's been a workhorse and I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I am super torn on this. The price is really good. I have the Neato D4 which I am still happy with but need another one for the 2nd floor.
Why are you torn? You provided only one pro without any con haha. Just get it

The only thing I love about the Neato design at this point is the wide beater brush (no bristles). It covers more in 1 pass than other robots and gets closer to the edge. Other than that, it's basically a 15 year old platform that has had no improvements in navigation.

I'll give up the wide brush for the way better navigation of the Roborock and better app and features.

Neato could have been a contender if they had continued to develop the route planning algorithm and app, but they did (mostly) nothing all this time. They're just squeezing out profit from the old platform until some other company buys up what's left of them.

I currently have a Neato D7. Is the Neato D9 an equivalent to it? I want to be able to tell the vacuum which rooms to clean.

My biggest issue with my D5 is that is has a really hard time going up a thresholds from my kitchen to living room. Are the newer versions any better with this?

I've had a D3 Connected for multiple years, I would not buy another Neato (and probably not another robot vac). It constantly has problems navigating, it is unable to update via the app and it's a known issue for almost a year now [reddit.com]. I called customer support and there is still no fix, and at least my vacuum (the D3 Connected) can't be updated manually - maybe this D8 can.

I've wasted more time and repeatedly become frustrated trying to get the "robot vacuum that automatically cleans your floors for you periodically" dream than it would have taken me to just use a manual vacuum.
Went from D4 to the Wyze Vac and Wyze is much better
