Great lens by all accounts, but the reason it's being cleared out as to E-mount is that it was a shortcut-rebranding of a lens designed only for Canon EF mount, so it's like you're buying a lens with an adapter hard-wired in, adding totally unnecessary bulk because of the flange distance spacer.

So it is NOT a case of "you need it this big at f/1.4," it's that it was never designed for Sony. Rumor has it, Sigma is properly redesigning this for E-mount, and it will be the right size.

The size if the DG HSN vs the DG DN is what to look out for. The HSN is pretty much an a built in MC-11 adapter and this is what makes the DC HSN so big. They are noticeably heavier. If you are looking for a Sony 28mm get the native Sony F2. it's an excellent lens and so light and small.

40mm f/1.4 is an incredible lens if you can live with this size.

Each are good value if you don't mind the size. Both will be redesigned as DG DN lenses soon.

I'm looking more at Samyangs now. They are much more compact, cheaper and sharper than the Sigma Arts. Having said that, I have three Sigma (Art) lenses and they are all very good (and very bulky and heavy).

Good value.

I'm using this lens on a 7iii. I can only compare it to a Sony 50 mm I bought around $600. My experience is that the Sony is a much better lens. This huge thing is very good, though, too. I am borrowing it from a friend. I'm not interested in buying it from him. I want something smaller to use on a gimbal.

its beyond incredible. It runs nose to nose with my Zeiss Milvus as far as quality of photo. What a steal for Sony users. I use it 50% for shooting Models.

I would pass. For Sony the 28mm f/2 is under $200 used and is still a great lens. This Sigma is too big and heavy.

Is the 28mm good for action/sports photography from a wide angle perspective?

Sounds like it's great for my 5D4.

Zooms typically work better for sports because subject distances change often and quickly. What sport were you referring to specifically?

I got this for my 4k Sony camera I use as a webcam/ video recording. It's fantastic and the bulk doesn't matter when it's mounted to my desk. I was happy with the purchase at $850 last year.
