First post but just got this in my inbox, thought other would want to know about it:

Dear My Best Buy® member,

Thank you for being a part of My Best Buy. We would like to inform you of the updated Terms and Conditions, including changes to the dispute resolution terms, coming to the My Best Buy program on May 3, 2022 (View updated My Best Buy program Terms here).

In an effort to simplify the program, we will be consolidating the Elite Plus, Elite and My Best Buy tiers into a single tier. On May 3, 2022, My Best Buy members in the Elite and Elite Plus tier will be moved into the standard My Best Buy program*.

We are also updating how points are displayed within the program. My Best Buy members will earn 1% back in rewards on qualifying purchases (0.5 points for every $1 spent) at Best Buy® and Participating Properties.

As a My Best Buy Credit Cardmember, you will earn 5% back* in rewards on qualifying net purchases (2.5 points for every $1 spent) at Best Buy and Participating Properties made with your Card when selecting standard credit. In addition, you will have the exclusive benefit of banking* your points until you're ready to issue a My Best Buy reward certificate. If your preferences are currently set to points-banking, we'll keep the preferences saved for you if your Card account remains open.

While you do not pay for the core My Best Buy program I did make sure to spend $3500 a year (which was kind of a cost) where possible to reach the Elite Plus tier for the Free One Day shipping and 45 day returns and getting 6% back on the Best Buy credit card. Without the benefits or the incentive to hit that annual goal I will likely spend a fraction of that each year at Best Buy.

So did I, and I think many others did this as well. I really don't have a reason to shop with them anymore.

Exactly. Best Buy is not always, or even often, the best bet financially but I'm an Elite + Total Tech member and I've been more or less loyal, unless there is a huge disparity in price and there isn't a need for installation, to maintain my status and keep Best Buy prices more reasonable and shopping easier for me, I buy from them. I'm definitely not going to continue to do so in the future. I may 'buy ahead' a couple of items to get the Elite + discount and get everything installed with my current Total Tech subscription, but then it's a competitive situation from here on out.

Agreed! Just saw the email, and this is disappointing. I wonder if there's any amount of customer push back that would convince them to change their mind.

I'm in the same boat as many others. I was even directing purchases to my credit card to make it to the Elite Plus tier… no longer.

Seems they are maybe positioning this change to flog TotalTech, but as that stands, that membership is not good value at 200, especially compared to Amazon Prime for only 139.

Total tech offers some extra stuff like repairs etc which prime does not offer. Whether it's a good value or not depends on your needs I suppose.

And boy prime is up to $139? I remember when it was around $99 and I feel that wasn't super long ago. Is this that inflation they've been talking about.

Looks like starting May 3, 2022, BB will get rid of the Elite and Elite Plus tier and by the wording seems like they are changing the way the points are banked.
