i dont have this at all, but have been reading up on it everytime deals come up. seems like everyone that opts for the 12" wishes they got the 16".
They didn't get it for $269 tho. 😉
Pizzas cooked in just a few minutes is not long enough to pick up much, if any, wood flavor. Plus a hot burning fire (opposed to a cooler fire, like in a smoker) does not even put out much of any smoke. You'll have to tend the fire and adjusting temps using time and certain amounts of wood/pellets is not as easy as turning a knob. So that's why I want gas.

As far as the size, I definitely was looking to get the 16"... but the price of this is just too good to justify moving up to 16".

This is an amazing pizza oven. I have the 16 inches and it cooks high quality Neapolitan style pizzas. The internal temperature of the oven easily reaches 900 F in 20 minutes during summer and I even used it during Iowa winters and I was able to cook a pizza by waiting just under 35 minutes to warm it up. If you do not mind a pizza on the smaller size the 12 inch version should be good. Some people prefer a brick oven, but I think the easiness of turning it on and cooking the pizza in 1 minute and 30 seconds is unbeatable. Buy it now. Plus, if you have a cast iron skillet you can also cook vegetables, meatballs, etc and they are going to taste incredible

This is an even better deal than the previous one. No pizza peel this time, but it's $60 cheaper.

I'd like to get the 16" but this is too good of a deal to pass up.

OP, I would put 12" and Costco in the title.
Bought the 12" the last go around, thinking I'm missing out on the 16". I was greatly surprised how much of a pizza 12 inches was especially for a family of three. I suggest taking a tape measure out and see what a 16" diameter looks like. Think papa Murphys family size. If you need that much pizza, making two smaller is sometimes easier and the second always comes out better. You have a chance to redeem yourself. Might have to sacrifice and eat the burnt part yourself for them young picky eaters out there. At least there is a back up ready in the next minute or so.

Have a 12" Roccbox which works great. Bought this for the second home. Don't think 12" is too small at all

I have a Koda 16. Love it. It's a game changer. At least for me it was.

In my opinion, two key skills that one must master is rotation and temp management. I assume that both of these would more difficult with the 12. Particularly temperature management since the 16 gives you more room to move the pizza diagonally towards or away from the flame.

I found that I mastered rotation quickly, but I also bought a turning peel (which I highly recommend). Temp management was a bit more tricky, but it comes with time and study/reading/watching online. Definitely worth it, though. My family loves the pizzas I crank out of this thing more than going out (I do make fresh dough as well).

Can't recommend it enough. But I do think life would be is easier with a 16.

I bought this a couple weeks ago on the last Costco deal. I make homemade pizza all of the time and this was one of the worst cooking experiences I have had. First of all, the metal pizza peel that it came with before is useless. So, this is a much better deal since you're not paying for garbage.

But, even with our wood pizza peel this thing was a nightmare to use. The opening is so narrow and so short top to bottom that getting anything into it to turn the pizza is very difficult. You need more of a long spatula than a pizza peel of once it's in the oven. Otherwise you basically need to pull the pizza all the way out on the peel, turn it by hand and then put it back in the oven. This was such a process that it really ruined the experience....and the pizza.

The bigger issue is that we just couldn't get this thing up to a sustainable temperature. We got it to 725, cooked the first pizza (which was a disaster for the reasons above) and then let it run for another 15 minutes to get back up to temp. We could not get it back up past 425 even with a new propane tank and letting it run. I'm fairly certain that just the process of cooking that first pizza and having some toppings melt near the burner caused it to mess up. I just got the feeling it was not going to hold up long term.

I think at this price point, it's worth a roll of the dice for anyone who wants to make a very small pizza from time to time. But, my Weber Summit gets up to 800 degrees and I make pizzas on it all the time with much better results. If you have a good quality grill, you might be better off experimenting with a pizza stone on your grill rather than splurging for this.

We returned ours to Costco and had no issues. We just told them it didn't work as advertised. Given their flexible return policy, and this very low price, it's worth a gamble just in case you like it. But, please, get a ten inch wood pizza peel before trying to make anything on it. Otherwise, you're up a creek.
You want a turning peel.

damn, i got the Karu 12 last month for my birthday, pretty sure my family paed $399 AND they got me all the fixin's and gas hook up, $$$$$$

don't want to tell them about this one for a lot less.

anyways, there's always a learning curve, but so far its awesome.

i used to use a pizza steel, but that takes 45-an hour to preheat. with Ooni, i'm done eating by the time the pizza steel would be ready.

between the 12 and 16 it boils down to how big you want your pizzas. For 10" and under pies the Koda 12 will suffice, but any larger then you risk the crust being too close to the flame and it will burn easier. 2 inches may not seem alot, but in a 900F portable oven it does matter.

I want one of these but I'm not sure if I want to go gas only or have the wood option. Also not sure about comparing 12" and 16". Thoughts?
The 16 is the way to go. I bought both to compare during Christmas sales and the 12 is too small. If you're planning on it being something portable then the 12 is the way to go but you really have to be mindful the pizza crust size
