I bought Delta gift card years ago but never used them. A lot of reasons:

1. Sometimes another airline is cheaper
2. Buying from third-party website is cheaper
3. Amex has offer which requires $300 payment on the credit card etc
4. Buying with airline miles is a better option (especially the fly date is closer).
5. Credit card points (CSR).

it makes me think twice before stocking any airline gift card anymore, considering that I only fly ~4 round trips per year. But I guess for others they may feel the deal is more useful.

❓It's a gift card, $500 of value for $400 of cost. I think you can buy about as many of the gift cards as you like and fly Alaska to your hearts desire. 20% off is a nice deal in my view. I fly SW a lot more however as they fly out of my airport more frequently and their starting point prices are generally, but not always, better. So if SW does a deal like this it will make me happy.
