Want to know how to spot someone who does not know what they are talking about? They use "LOL" somewhere in their sentence, possibly even to start and end the statement. It is a sort of arrogance that "laughing out loud" somehow makes them knowledgeable. As a 29 season skier and snowboarder who averages 60 days a season, I do not use thumb holes either. Some of my 100 day a season skier buddies don't use powder skirts. Yet, some of my expert skier and snowboarder friends won't buy a jacket without a powder skirt and I will not either. Powder skirts help on deep powder days when you fall. It is personal choice (not a gimmick) to use powder skirts, thumb holes, powder cuffs, etc.. Patagonia is no trash brand and manufactures many of their winter gear items in Vietnam. Go to their web-site and watch their manufacturing videos. They are far from "trash" and far from selling out. Spyder has some nice stuff but also has some lower end stuff sold at Costco. Spyder is definitely not in a league with a high-end brand like Patagonia, but not all of it is "trash."

Marmot? Patagonia? Trash brands? I'm sorry, but what???

On topic, I got a spyder pullover at Costco last year and it's been my go-to hiking pullover here in the PNW. Going strong so far about a year in. Also got a few long sleeve shirts for them and they have held up well as base layers. Not sure about long term, but a year out of a $30 pullover has met my expectations.

Prices still seem slightly high for the quality level Spyder is at. Not a bad deal, just not super slick in my honest opinion. To each their own though.

I bought some stuff on the last clearance sale. I cannot comment on how long the items with last, but they are definitely warm. We tried them on indoors to see the fit and I was sweating lightly after 6 minutes of wearing it in 78 degree weather. I picked up the pinnacle 360 for women and the metro for men. the metro IMO ended up too long for my liking. I would go with the transit as it is shorter in length.

On the previous deal I bought leather ski gloves since they are supposed to last longer. The sticthing is already coming apart on one part of one of the gloves after three days of use. I don't know what their defect policy is but I may just sew it up myself as I am guessing it will be cheaper and less of a hassle.

I plan on reaching out to them about it first but I know most companies make you pay to ship the product back.

It's a $700 jacket retail. Seems like a good deal.

Spyder makes junk. Wouldn't pay these prices for their low quality clothes. BTW, you'll often see Spyder winter clothes at ROSS for even less than on their website even with the discounts.

Spyder once was higher end stuff, ruggedized ski gear without gimmicks. When I sold my se on the bay, I got surprising attention and a better sale than I had hoped for.

Now it's a nicer trash brand - alongside Marmot, Patagonia, etc. The ones who sold out to Chinese manufacture. Gimmicks like powder skirts, thumb holes ... Lol. I've skied a bunch of times through waist-plus deep stuff and never wish I'd had a powder skirt lol.

Bought some new snow pants for me and my 6 year old on the last deal. We went skiing a week and a half ago, and they worked great. Excellent stuff; we stayed completely dry. For what it's worth, I also got my son some of the gloves. They functioned well, and the wrist strap was great for a kiddo.

For the 50% off, good deal. It's not worth it at full price, but we're glad we hopped on it last time.

LOL My Spyder jacket from the 90s has a powder skirt and thumb holes.

I still wear it.

I bought some new gear for the whole fam this year during these kind of sales, both Spyder direct and Peter Glenn. Goretex jacket for me, full Spyder setup for the 11yo, a bib for the Mrs. All of it kept us warm and dry. One day was 20's, really windy and snowing, no issues. Is it $1800 Kjus or some other "look at my wallet" brand? No. Is it 60-80 day a season gear? Maybe not. But it's not trash and will serve the casual well for the money.
