I don't have any other details other than what's on T-mobile's website:
https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/free...e-in-offer

It seems to be that if you trade in a 3G only phone, you'll get a free OnePlus Nord 200 5G. You may have to pay taxes on full retail value, and $10 SIM card fee.
In-store only.
T&C are very unclear and there's no list of eligible phones.

QA note: YMMV. Eligible customers only.

$10 sim plus $10 connect plan plus $6 tax (for some of us) equals $26 for the Nord phone. Cancel the plan and the phone is unlocked after a month? Is that phone worth $26?

A little bit disappointed of this deal.. It is 2022 now, why they still want us to go to the store and get a deal.

Otherwise I think it is a great deal, especially just plan to switch from tello to t-mobile connect (mainly want to try the prioritized data)

By my read, you would not be able to unlock it after a month, based on T-Mobile's unlock policy. I don't have recent experience with unlocking T-Mobile devices though so maybe someone who does can comment on this.

T-Mobile unlock policy: https://www.t-mobile.com/responsi...ock-policy

Phone specs here: https://www.gsmarena.com/oneplus_...-10961.php

Specs seem quite decent. The processor has a PassMark benchmark score of 2486, which is equal to a flagship device from 2017 I have. That's significantly better than current budget phones T-Mobile is offering (Moto G Pure, Samsung Galaxy A12).

If it can be unlocked after a year *without* having to maintain service on T-Mobile (no idea on this), that seems like a pretty good deal.

Can you trade in any 3G only phone, from a different carrier?

It seems like the TMO unlock policy is after 40 days, which isn't bad compared to some other carriers which make you have service for 6 months or a year

What about if you already have T-Mobile prepaid? I could temporarily move my SIM from my smartphone to an old 3G flip phone before going to the store.

40 days is for T-Mobile postpaid.

As detailed in the SIM Unlock Policy that @GaiaGeek posted, T-Mobile Prepaid requires at least 365 days have passed since device was activated, or minimum 14 days and at least $100 in refills.

Not for prepaid phones, it says a year on that link from the poster above you, maybe you didn't click their link and read it

You're right, sorry about that. But it also says the prepaid policy can be made with $100 paid: At least 365 days must have passed since the device was activated on the T Mobile network. If the device was activated less than 365 days ago, then the Prepaid account associated with the device must have had more than $100 in refills during that period for each line active on the account. In addition, more than 14 days must have passed since the device was purchased.

Yep, it's all good.

Also, just like the OP said it seems like stores are pretty unaware of this offer, I talked to one of the really nice reps at one of my local stores and she seems to be completely unaware of this promotion and even said that she's never heard of being able to trade in phones for prepaid.

of course I didn't mention SD. Just inquired about the promotion as per the T-Mobile web page regarding this promo.

I went to a T Mobile store in person. And yes, they are totally unaware of this offer. They called in and checked with someone from their end.
So, how this deal works is, for existing prepaid t mobile users who are using outdated 3g mobile phones, an sms will be sent (which is this offer) to upgrade their device to Nord 200 5G.
This sms, the IMEI number and the t mobile account are to be presented at the store, after validation, they will honor the offer.

This is what I was told. I had a 3G mobile, and a prepaid t mobile number. But, this sim card was not on my old phone. It's on a 4G device. I did not get any sms. And so, nothing for me. I will try swapping the sim to older phone and wait for a day or two.
