Great now you can access the parks that you pay for with your tax dollars for "free".
Having passes available for free via a mildly inconvenient process is a good way to ration access and avoid overwhelming the parks.
Should be automatically issued to all taxpaying California citizens.

Just so I understand, we "check out" a pass at the local library, and have to return it after a certain (unspecified) amount of time? That sounds a bit annoying but I guess it depends on how long you can have the passes checked out for. We love and regularly utilize the public library system, but we've been doing mostly checking out digital content so we don't go to a physical library all that often these days.

You're right. I just saw that they apply the same policy for their books: you "check out" their books, and have to return them after a certain amount of time. A bit annoying, I guess. Wink

would be great if this can be done online. and to avoid abuse, can have a way to limit the time and check if the pass is used at all within the checkout duration (if not, ban the user for some time etc)

It's the CA way! "Free"!!! Everything should be "free"!!!
Except for the hard working people that actually pay the taxes and contribute to the system...

I just got off the phone with my local
Librarian in Corte Madera CA. She said they aren't available yet but there are 81 people on the "hold list" for 11 passes that will be made available for the county of Marin. Marin has 262,321 residents as of 2020. I added our library card number to the list just in case they remove all of the rich people ahead of us…
