If you've been tracking the prices, they basically raised them and then the "sale" brings them back to where they were before. Not much of sale, specially for foamies.
I am an avid RC airplane guy. For those wanting to get into the hobby, do NOT buy the jets or warbirds. Your toy won't last more than a few seconds.

Out of all the planes offered, the AeroScout is the only one that is RTF (Ready to Fly). Which means it comes with everything you need; Plane, Battery, Charger and Transmitter. This is the only one I would recommend to a complete beginner to the hobby.

The Sport Cub S 2 BNF Basic with SAFE is a great plane for beginners, but this is the BNF (Bind and Fly) version, so you will need to already have a controller and charger to operate it.

P.S. The small planes are great because you can go fly at a park or soccer field, which is very convenient and beneficial when trying to learn. However, when you go fly, make sure it is a dead calm day with no wind. These small planes can get pushed around a lot, even in a small breeze.
I'm pass on foam planes. I've been 3d printing my own r/c planes, boats, drones and car. Much better designs and easier to rebuild when dmg.

Actually not necessarily from this list but hopefully it will still be a great value. I looked at the Huba STS with SAFE and the videos are awesome with the beginner settings. But this model is close to $500 tho- wish there was a slickdeal on this model. lol or maybe other models that has the same features?
Please don't get a jet. Read a member's post above about his first time experience with a jet.

If you want something durable and a great beginner plane, the full-size AeroScout is a great plane. It has SAFE (an auto-level feature which prevents you from accidentally getting the plane upside down and stuff) and it is a "pusher" style plane, which means the motor is in the back. So, even if you slam this thing into the ground nose-first, you can usually keep flying because the important bits were in the back.

The Micro AeroScout (on sale) is a good plane, but must be flown in nearly dead-calm wind conditions. This larger AeroScout (linked above) will handle a bit more wind and be more stable. But because it is larger, it is more prone to breaking if you crash.

Of course, no plane is indestructible. If you have a bad enough crash, you may need to replace the fuselage or repair it. Repairing foam is very easy to do with some hot water and gorilla glue.

Also on sale at Amazon too with HH as the seller. Debating on getting the scout as I have a DX6 from my helicopters. I do imagine I'd need more space than my backyard though 🤔

I miss those cheap little Air Hogs biplanes. Those were the coolest toys!

I may as well chime in. I would say for a beginner the Night Vapor hands down.I have 2 of the original ones and fly them more than my other planes. Super forgiving and it may not look it but quite durable. I've crashed both screwing around and the only damage has been to a landing gear on one when I smacked into my Avalanche landing and taking off from the bed cover. Downside is the wind has to be pretty calm since its so light.

I have the Cub. Good way to start flying, especially with SAFE, but it's so lightweight that any sort of wind will absolutely thrash it. I live near salt water and it's that still very rarely.

For you experienced hobbyist... What is the BEST RTF model out there that is easy to fly/ land and super durable where you don't have to be replacing parts all the time? Made for beginners.
This is a pretty good beginner package right here and a very good beginner plane. My 10 year old nephew with no prior experience did great first time out. Just depends on budget

But of the beginner planes on horizon hobby with the SAFE system will be very easy to fly. The regular 3 channel radian is a classic.

THIS. Hardly a sale here, much less $150 off.

rc-plans.com has a couple planes that print quite nicely. I did the Epsilon (now called the Model A) using some knock-off LW-PLA from Amazon and achieved AMAZING results. (It's somewhat foamy like LW-PLA, but not nearly as difficult to print with as true LW-PLA.)

If you want to get into RC, I suggest small foamie park-flyers. Get some foam, cut it out, install some electronics, and go trash it. You can make them modular if you want, so any damaged pieces are easily replaced.
And get an X9D with External Xmitter and you can fly pretty much everything. Peace

Best for a newbie is their regular aeroscout, not the mini
I've had one of those for 2 years, absolutely love flying it.
My friend and I have gotten so used to playing it, we've become quite careless, we've literally had a mid-air, foam flying everywhere, hot glued them back together, back flying a few minutes later they're almost indestructible.
The gyro lets you even fly in high wind crazy.
I used to build these out of balsa wood, never again

Any recommendation on 3D printed plan and car models for beginners? I have plenty of experience with 3D printers and general electronics (Arduino and RPi). I'd like to find something to build with my kid. TIA.

I know I shouldn't want to get a jet. I know it. But I can't help but want an F-16, or that ultrix model. Or one of those star trek style planes I saw 10+ years ago in some YouTube vids. Honestly tempted and yet fully aware that this is probably a waste of money for me.

Thanks for your feedback. Very helpful. I hear what you're saying about the AeroScout being RTF, but is it also DTF?

Are you designing them yourself, or printing designs from the web?

I have about 90 minutes logged in flight simulator. Think I'm ready?
Model aircraft has little to do with MS flight simulator.

Here you are on the ground trying to maneuver the aircraft left and right. Sometimes the controls reverse and we have to adjust our reaction or logic to follow the airplane fpv perspective.

FPV has a cockpit view. RC models have a 3rd party view.

Once you get the hang of it, it is wonderful and entertaining.

The RC Simulator is a must before flying a model. It saves a lot of money and dissapointments.

I'm a drone, RC airplane model, and rocket enthusiast.

All wonderful.
