IOW, when Office 2024 (or whatever) comes out you don't get to upgrade to it. However, you will still receive security, bug, and critical updates to your Office 2021 for the life of the product (thru Oct 13, 2026).
Also, read the ONE COMPUTER part as something that you control. If a computer that you had this Office 2021 on dies, you are fully able to license the same Office 2021 on a new computer, provided you log into your Microsoft account and remove the old computer activation. It's a full retail license that is fully transferrable - as long as it's only on one computer at a time.
Also², If you already have (or have had) a Microsoft account tied to a subscription Microsoft product (Office365/Microsoft365) Microsoft may not allow you to use that account for perpetual products (although this isn't explained when you try to use it). Just create a new, free Microsoft account and activate it that way. You can use the key you receive for any valid email address (regardless of the email address you enter when purchasing the Office 2021 Pro).

Its for a laptop
I am no longer eligible for MS HUP program. BTW: read the fine print. you should be deleting it off your PC if you leave the job you qualified for it. FYI.
Not a fan of WebOffice - no MSAccess and you need an internet connection active and not happy MS discontinued their free app viewers in favor of web office.
Not a fan of 365. Again, not great for laptops.
I hate Googe apps after trying to work with them for 1 1/2 years at my last job (I did like the simultaneous user access/update though)
Not a fan of libreoffice either.
But it's an easy call to get that license reactivated on your PC - simply explain you had to replace a part that broke.

I simply VIRTUALIZE Office (and Windows) to eliminate this.
Virtual any App and your can stick it in a usb drive and run Your apps in any PC without installing regardless of how many parts you change.
Vmware.com and Turbo.net can do this.

Very convenient when virtualization an entire OS.
E.g. I have an entire install of windows 10, totally clean, + tax software for years virtualized.
Done with taxes? Archive that image unhook next year and you know it's clean and ready for the next year's tax software. And years of tax docs and such don't get lost because it's all kept in one virtual pc image.
A snapshot takes an exact image of your drive including all software, documents,folders, etc the key is going to be making sure you have everything installed that you wanted prior, cleaning up the hard drive of junk, running antivirus/malware scans, windows /software updates, etc it will save you a lot of headache.
Or, do a fresh image and transfer data the over from the live image, cloud, local usb/physical storage. Point is, you have options.

All of the cheap licenses you buy off of eBay for ~$20 for instance, it doesn't get added to your MS Account after activating the key (as those are non-Retail versions and a ONE-time install).
these are usually stolen keys generated through a company's corporate license. if a large company prepays for, say, a block of 1500 licenses for their employees, the price per key is really really cheap. so some sleazy IT employees will "issue" 50-100 of those keys to themselves (steal them) and then sell the keys to off-shore resellers like "Topfastkeys" who then sell the stolen keys to you
it's unlikely that the company will ever find out as a few stolen keys is a rounding error for these big fortune 500 companies and they likely won't deactivate your key even is MS finds out... but that's why there's a "warranty" because if/when they do find out, all unactivated keys in the block will get wiped.
