The free updates don't include upgrades.
IOW, when Office 2024 (or whatever) comes out you don't get to upgrade to it. However, you will still receive security, bug, and critical updates to your Office 2021 for the life of the product (thru Oct 13, 2026).

Also, read the ONE COMPUTER part as something that you control. If a computer that you had this Office 2021 on dies, you are fully able to license the same Office 2021 on a new computer, provided you log into your Microsoft account and remove the old computer activation. It's a full retail license that is fully transferrable - as long as it's only on one computer at a time.

Also², If you already have (or have had) a Microsoft account tied to a subscription Microsoft product (Office365/Microsoft365) Microsoft may not allow you to use that account for perpetual products (although this isn't explained when you try to use it). Just create a new, free Microsoft account and activate it that way. You can use the key you receive for any valid email address (regardless of the email address you enter when purchasing the Office 2021 Pro).

I purchased from here in mid April. Last week my installation suddenly restricted my access as unlicensed. I called Microsoft support and they tried to help but unable to saying something to the effect this was MSDN licensed and ultimately I would have to contact the seller. I do not recommend this deal.

I know this is windows 1 computer but will this also allow me to use Word etc on a chromebook? Sorry if this is a stupid question..

So if I installed it on a virtual machine, does it mean I can transfer to any of I want to use.

So what if you periodically upgrade the same PC? I know windows is transferrable as long as it's not used on two independent machines as once but what about this? Only time I really have that issue maybe with Windows if I do a motherboard swap to something newer but that didn't even happen last time so I was curious how they handle it with this.

I know this is how Windows licensing used to be but since they have gone to the digital licensing with Windows 8 I have not had that issue at all since. Even when I changed the mobo, and cpu last time I did an upgrade it didn't even bother be about reactivating.

I was curious if Office is still tied to the motherboard like the old windows used to be or is it now using the digital licensing tied to your account?
