The free updates don't include upgrades.
IOW, when Office 2024 (or whatever) comes out you don't get to upgrade to it. However, you will still receive security, bug, and critical updates to your Office 2021 for the life of the product (thru Oct 13, 2026).

Also, read the ONE COMPUTER part as something that you control. If a computer that you had this Office 2021 on dies, you are fully able to license the same Office 2021 on a new computer, provided you log into your Microsoft account and remove the old computer activation. It's a full retail license that is fully transferrable - as long as it's only on one computer at a time.

Also², If you already have (or have had) a Microsoft account tied to a subscription Microsoft product (Office365/Microsoft365) Microsoft may not allow you to use that account for perpetual products (although this isn't explained when you try to use it). Just create a new, free Microsoft account and activate it that way. You can use the key you receive for any valid email address (regardless of the email address you enter when purchasing the Office 2021 Pro).

I purchased from here in mid April. Last week my installation suddenly restricted my access as unlicensed. I called Microsoft support and they tried to help but unable to saying something to the effect this was MSDN licensed and ultimately I would have to contact the seller. I do not recommend this deal.

No. I suspect these are going to be OEM generated codes that will eventually be blacklisted.

You won't get newer versions. You will get 2021 version and updates for that specific version. You will not get 2022, 2023, etc. You will be stuck at version 2021. This is not office 365 where you get a constant evolving version that has a yearly renewal.

If it's anything like the lifetime keys that I've bought off StackSocial in the past, it will be a 1 year license, but you won't know until a year from now. At that time, the seller will have closed their store, and StackSocial will say, "There's nothing we can do."

I bought it from the Slickdeals post in January. Mine is an MSDN license. To check your license type, refer back to that thread. I'm crossing my fingers on this one since it's being advertised everywhere and hope it lasts longer than my cheap key purchased from eBay.

What does one do if they are a simpleton like me?

I have probably reimaged my laptop many-many-times without un-installing apps like MSOffice. I bought my MSOffice license through my company's Home Use Program probably ten years ago for $10. Since then I have done what I mentioned earlier and now I can no longer install MSOffice on my laptop.

Feel so old now that I still use '07 blue edition 😅 I only use it for making mailing label every 2 years and update resume whenever. Our job has 365 so why bother.
