if you dont stream a lot of content, if you dont care about the bitrate/proper rendering of said content on a high end OLED/QLED TV, then yeh the Apple TV 4K is probably not worth the price hike for you.
But for those that want:
- clean interface
- the most updated and superior apps for each service
- the cleanest / frame rate matched picture possible
- the fastest navigation of any device
- the ability to close apps and multitask without having to unplug/restart the device
- spatial audio with Airpods (probably the best feature alone)
The extra $80-100 is well worth the cost.
I sold my last gen 4k for $90 - means they hold their value well too.
Realistically you could buy the 32GB for $150 use it for 3 years and sell it for $90 - allowing you to use the best possible streaming device for $20 a year.
For some Roku/Amazon is good enough but for those that want a superior experience they go with Apple TV 4K or the slightly dated NVidia Shield Pro.

I got one with whatever the black friday deal was, but I never get around to opening it still. lol. I just hate tossing the roku aside when it technically still works, but it does mess up more lately, so it's probably about time to start using the apple...
You let Apple TV 4K sit there and use a Roku? Stop!

Even though I do not like the Roku OS.( it reminds me of one of those things created for old people.....Grandpad, Jitterbug, giant remotes...etc..)
I can't see myself paying more than double for Apple TV than the Roku Ultra.

I agree the price is disagreeable. If you've seen how content gets rendered on the AppleTV 4k versus a Roku Ultra you'll see why it's a better rendering platform IMO.

Why not have them both hooked up at the same time? That's what I do. They both have pluses and minuses.
Been waiting for this, and got one with the Amazon hub pickup promo $10 off plus 5% Chase freedom this quarter. Might need to look into a Discover card for their promos…

Do you have a source for the better picture quality etc from Apple TV 4K?

yeah, but better yet I think I will just move the roku to my other tv. I have an oled and an elite plasma, and interestingly I use the plasma most of the time.
