This isn't bad! I was waiting for a Gen 3 - 2TB!

This OR:

Kingston - KC2500 - 2TB - $167
Samsung 970 Evo Plus - 2TB - $200

The 2TB Gen 4 P5 Plus was just on sale for $199.99 a few days ago. For only a $20 discount for Gen 3 vs Gen 4 I would prefer the Gen 4.

Looks like the Crucial has 70gb MLC, vs 50GB for Kingston, but Kingston has slightly higher sustained writes past cache.
for my use case I went with crucial as slightly large cache exceeds most of my camera card sizes, which will be my biggest transfers, and slightly higher writes from 15gb of movie files benchmark

Based mostly on reputation, I'd go with Samsung for reliable qa, firmware and drivers. The 970 evo plus regularly goes down to $179 and then you can often find a cashback website that gives another 3-10%.

I think all these companies have a good reputation. I say good because no brand is perfect. I don't think Samsung has the greatest QA. When it comes pure advancement in technology, they have the power and resources to be first in the market for most things.

My knowledge is based single-handedly on recommendation from a former WD SSD engineer. According to him WD testing facilities is second to none and believes Samsung has proven themselves over the years. Basically it comes down to testing since a lot of the chips are sourced from the same source and where they differ is the firmware and driver and that's why testing is crucial. E.g. what happens if you lose power, what happens to data in DRAM? A good firmware would know to read DRAM upon boot up and look into storing missing data, a bad would not.

Anyway, to each their own of course, I'm sure there's plenty of people who will find any SSD perfectly fine but I'd personally go for WD or Samsung. He did mention SK Hynix and Seagate as good alternatives.
