FYI these are NOT white ambiance. You cannot change color temp. However, you can dim them and control them remotely.

Would these bulbs be better for outdoor, ceiling fan, etc ? I'm assuming this kit is worth it just for the hub and build out on top of that ?

Exactly... there are THREE different types. I bought this one by mistake and they suck (for me) because they only dim and the default color has a gross-looking yellow shade. The White Ambiance version lets you change the SHADE/TONE, but it's still limited to the color white. That's the version I needed, so I can make them a more true-white, clear color.

I also own the all-color version of these for my office and they are simply awesome. My basement has a drop ceiling and the BR30 flood lamp was made for my setup.
