Was approved for this card @80K signup bonus a couple weeks ago. Some notes:

This is a great card for anyone who travels or plans to soon travel!
Call your local branch and see if they offer 80K signup + first year fee waived. If you do apply in branch, allot at least 30 minutes for this Frown.
If you have a Peloton membership, note that the Preferred will credit you $60 total off fees, but I think only through June, so act quick!
I didn't get my card after a week, despite a 1-2 day delivery promise. I called in, and they said, oh, whoops, we forgot to ship it! (and they then indeed shipped it 2nd day air via UPS).
You'll get the most value from the 80K points BY FAR by transferring them strategically to airline/hotel partners (most often: United and Hyatt). Do some reading across blogs to learn more.
I know when I applied for this card, I did it in the branch and got a $125 grocery credit incentive. Basically every time I shopped at a grocery store I received a credit back until the $125 credit was maxed…. It may be worth it to call a banker & ask if they have that promo as it was only for in branch applications, not online & worth it to a trip to the bank, if you ask me!
I don't think there's been a better offer on the reserve in many years?

Outside of the SUB the CS > CSP used to be a no brainer, but with the higher AF on the CSR, and the improved benefits/earn on CSP it's a tougher choice now.

Today it's $155 more (removing the travel credit from the price difference) for CSR...

SUPER generously if we count the GE/TSA credit as $20 a year that drops it to $135/yr more for CSR.

For the $135 you get:

Priority Pass (still the good one that includes restaurants unlike Amex)

Marginally better travel insurance coverage

"free" roadside assitance (up to 4 calls a year, max $50 per call)

You do get significantly better purchase protection (10k per claim instead of $500- but then I'm buying most expensive stuff with a Citi card for 2 years of extra warranty anyway)

1.5x for your points in the travel portal vs 1.25 for CSP- but this is rarely a worthwhile use of points for most folks compare to transfers.

10x points (vs 5x on CSP) for cash spend in the travel portal or Chase Dining portals- but those again aren't frequently the ideal way to book for most folks anyway.

So as I say, when this was $35-55/yr it was easy... ONE 2 person use of priority pass at an airport restaurant more than covered this- if you get anything out of any other benefit you're golden.

At $135 it's much more marginal for many.

owenobriendublin - Can you please share the offer details. I was planning to apply this in the branch tomorrow.

In branch should also offer 100k and waive the annual fee first year.

Sorry for noob question, never done Travel card. I've a trip coming up and would like to get this card. So after spending $4k in first 3 months we get 80,000 bonus points.
Can the bonus points be redemmed as Cash or credit towards bill payment?
On those $4k spent on travel will I get additional 5x points for travel?
Can I use the points to book future International travel with Any airline like Emirates or Etihad? Or can it be used via Epedia/Orbitz ?

You can cash it but as others have mentioned you get more mileage out of it by using the points for non-cash deals. I personally convert my UR points to Hyatt points that are worth 1.7 cents per point. Chase allows 1 to 1 conversion from UR points to Hyatt points so you get 80K Hyatt points which has a monetary value of $1360. Also, Hyatt has promos where they discount points required for staying at their hotels. All this is assuming you travel often. I created Wolrd of Hyatt account just for this purpose although I'm a long time HHonors member.

In addition to what HuBu said,

Yes, the 4k spend will give you points as well.

You can redeem 80k points for 800$ statement credit (or like what hubu said, you can transfer to airlines) or use sapphire travel (web site or customer support) to book any travel worth 1000$.

You can use the card to book direct with airlines or travel sites like Expedia/Orbitz, all ate same and you will earn travel related points.

Thanks. Looks like this is the best offer out there.
Couldnt find anything better than this.

So has the offer improved now to 100K points or still at 80K whether online or in branch?

But we can redeem for $800 cash by check or direct deposit if we don't want to apply it to any travel site correct?

If I paid my contractor with this credit card linked to Venmo would it code as a purchase to qualify for bonus cashback or be considered cash advance? Or If I was to fund my Venmo balance with it, then it would code as a cash advance? I am reading conflicting reports on this issue and need some clarification.

Yes. You can redeem as cashback ( 100 points as 1$, so 800$+) to any banks (not just chase)

Yes, it will make you qualify for the 4k spending bonus when using venmo to do peer to peer transfer.

I was reading at this link https://www.nerdwallet.com/articl...at-to-know about how Chase qualifies some purchases as cash advance and this part has me cornced:

"Missing from the list is explicit mention of certain popular payment systems, such as PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, PayPal Key and Plastiq. A Chase spokeswoman said all of those "could" be classified as a cash-like transaction. However, purchases of goods and services from a business using a third-party payment service are not cash-like transactions and would not have the associated fees, she said.

So, for example, using a Chase card to fund an in-person retail transaction via Apple Pay or an online purchase via PayPal at checkout would not be a cash-like transaction."

From chase:

To qualify and receive your bonus, you must make Purchases totaling $4,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening. ("Purchases" do not include balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.)

Nothing excludes paypal/venmo. (Still paying 3% or 120$ extra for a 4k spend may not be the best way). I paid a friend's rent using the card (lucky with paypal key which not exist anymore otherwise 2.5% extra it would have been)

This I would get referral to apply for the CS then she would get an extra $150 on tip of the $800 she recently will get after we purchased flooring material. So overall it would reduce my fee to contractor by around $640 and she gets the $150 too.
