For anyone expecting these to be a huge upgrade from the 1080p version, keep in mind that some of the movies are 2k resolution upscaled to 4k.

EDIT: see this post https://slickdeals.net/f/15730366-harry-potter-8-film-collection-4k-ultra-hd-blu-ray-64-99-free-shipping-via-amazon?p=154575586#post154575586
Only movie 1 and 2 are true 4k.

Were they filmed that way or is there the possibility of a better fidelity release in the future?

In fact, it looks like 1 and 2 are true 4k scans, and every other movie is a 2k upscale.
Dang it.

Still bought it as I wanted this for some time for the family, and wasn't paying the 100+ it had been sitting at.

That link confirms (under the "blu ray review" subsection) each film's 4k or 2k status.

No digital copies is a bummer, otherwise you could have flipped those on the DCS subreddit to make this even slicker.

So I have a PS5 and true 4k tv. Is there actually a noticeable difference compared to a dual panel "4k" tv and playing on a Blu ray player?

My wife literally plays HP as a background noise so I want to know if it's worth upgrading from the Blu ray set

What is a "true 4K TV"? If the resolution is 4K then it's 4K. As far as dual panel, to the best of my knowledge the only upside to those is better contrast. I've heard those are actually not worth it due to the downsides in luminance and flicker.

Now for your question, the advantage to playing a 4K disc on an actual player is that you'll be getting the highest bitrate possible. This results in better sharpness, colors and increased details especially in fast moving and darker scenes. Quality will be much better than streaming the movies from whichever service you use. It will be better than a 1080p BluRay also. But with that being said, if you're not really sitting down to enjoy the movie on your TV and rather just using it as background noise, there's no point to buying this.

best deal on this in a while! for anyone curious about the packaging, it's just two separate eight-disc viva elite flipper cases in a slipbox, one for 4k, one for blu-ray. the original release did come with digital copies, but as is customary for wb, after that initial run (or however long) they no longer include them. afaik the packaging did change to match, but a lot of sites are slow to update their product images (if at all) so there were some issues with that, that have since been sorted.

for those complaining about the native 4k vs. upscaled, if it helps your decision at all, these do all have hdr10 and dts:x, which not all of the original blu-rays had. it is of course missing the content from the ultimate editions, the hogwarts edition [blu-ray.com], etc.

Some 2k upscaled even better than native 4k
