Right now, 3070 is about $700. 5600x is $220. Get a good motherboard like B550 for $150 new on eBay. Good 16GB RAM for $100. PSU for $120 (bigger than this one). SSD of this size for $60. Still need a case. I mean / this isn't a bad price but it's not substantially cheaper than building your own which will be better anyway. For $1400 you can make significantly nicer machine, I'd say.

A lot of cash back websites give great deals for HP. However, be warned that the case has bad air circulation, and the CPU cooler is absolute garbage. The 5600x won't reach max boost clocks, you'll get CPU temps in the 90s, and it will run loud. You will need to replace the cooler, but that could void the warranty, and the case won't fit any tall tower coolers so you'll need to get an AIO or a low profile cooler.

For 700 you can get a 3070 Ti now. So I am also in favor of this mindset. This is now the worst time to spend a substantial amount more on a pre-made desktop, as gpu prices are falling and its heading back to being able to build your own with much nicer quality components and such. Of course for those who can't do that, or just for ease, I see the appeal. But not this one if it has all the aforementioned issues

The 5600x won't reach max boost clocks, you'll get CPU temps in the 90s, and it will run loud. You will need to replace the cooler, but that could void the warranty, and the case won't fit any tall tower coolers so you'll need to get an AIO or a low profile cooler.

That said, a year ago I paid $1400 for a worse spec machine. So it's still not bad at all.

At least in California the warranty part is not true. Hp would have to prove that your modification is what caused the issue leading to the warranty request in order to void warranty.

Justwant to comment that if u click the buy button, it will be impossible to get a refund until you get the unit in your place of delivery. That means HP can delay shipping from China by two to three months or more, and you are basically giving them an interest free loan during the time of transit. HP does this almost every quarter now. YMMV but know this before looking any further.

If this was a 5800 or 5900x with a 3060 instead I'd deal with the cooling issues for the workstation slant on components.

For 700 you can get a 3070 Ti now. So I am also in favor of this mindset. A year ago this would be an instant buy, today in this very moment it's hot garbage don't even consider it. Just buy a 3060 Ti or a 3070, a 5600x and built it yourself. Plus this case is hot and has bad cooling. If you want to change the cooler you more than likely void warranty so just avoid this ideally.

You guys are way too old to be spouting computer advice without know about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Their verbiage about voiding a warranty, stickers covering screw holes, etc... is not legally binding. This has been challenged over and over.

If you replace a part and later on another part breaks unrelated to what you did, they have to replace or refund you.

NOW, that being said... Builders will likely require all original parts if you plan on utilizing their repair services. So you could swap the cooler, the ram and case and if the PSU fails, you have to put everything back in the original case.

TL : DR, swap put whatever you want, but keep the OEM parts in case shit hits the fan down the line.

It's not worth it if you have to deal with HP's outsourced support if it shows up doa.

And if you do return, they will hold on to it for six weeks after it's delivered to them before they issue a refund. You make a good point… I wonder just how much their crappy return policies/practices are impacting their CCC. HP customers are providing them with free capital.

I think the prebuilts will continue to lag behind the GPUs and CPU sales for a few weeks because they were built when costs were higher.
