100% I feel like hotels are minimum 50% more. Food seemed to be similar to bay area prices. You more at the $15-20 range even on cheap eats. Plus car rentals are still wild like $700 a week.
Ridiculous how rental prices are around $100/day. Ive been to hawaii 5 times, rented suvs to economy...if you paid $50/day on any island that was a lot! Most of the time is was $35/day.
They've been this price booking directly on Alaska and Southwest the last few times I checked in March.

flights are cheap, but staying, moving around, and eating in Hawaii is very expensive. Going to Europe would be better in terms of value imho.
Yep. Looked at Hawaii with cheap airfare but accommodation is not cheap. I've been looking at Mexico with cheaper accommodation but the airfare is expensive. Flying to Europe from the west coast is long though.

And they do not allow you to sleep in your car like in California. So you need to have a place to stay.

Prices for Rental Car, Hotel and Food are EXTREMELY HIGH right now in Maui or other Hawaiian islands. Let alone if you can get a rental car since limited stock.
Cheap flight, but you'll get screwed on the other end of the stick.
true, price is about 5-6 times of what I paid in 2019 prior to pandemic.
Just came back from Maui two weeks ago. If you're looking for a rental and the big names are booked/pricey, try Kihei Rent-A-Car. It's a local place. They shuttled us from/to the airport to the rental place. We rented two cars. One had a few ants and the ceiling was a dirty. The other car was just fine.
