Edit: why thumb down on a fact? Amazon mixes their own and third party (FBA) inventory to basically use them as cost-free safety stock at the expense of potentially selling counterfeits.
Oh yeah and when I wrote a review stating that Amazon sold me a counterfeit memory card they took the review down. So take that what it's worth. Didn't they just ban some major third party manufacturers for encouraging people to leave a review? As far as I know they couldn't selectively delete negative reviews yet Amazon does exactly that….

I don't agree Amazon is zero hassle though.. You still have to get it back to a return spot within 30 days just to get a replacement. And if you are busy and only get around to checking that memory card 31 days after it arrived, sucks to be you.
It's a case of the company setting its own incentives. If they responded to counterfeit SD cards by doing the right thing for people who found out later, replacing or refunding it, then it would incentivize them to prevent the problem. But as long as their policy is to, except in a narrow window, not to deal with it, they have very little reason to bother preventing it.
Keep in mind, SD users are not the average. Most buyers, your friends and relatives (especially older ones lol), will assume they did something wrong or that it broke from use, and just buy a new one.
Amazon used to have amazing customer service, which incentivized making sure their products were in the best condition and their shipping didn't damage things. That business model really draws in customers. But once they got most shoppers, they don't need to draw people in. So they squeeze existing customers with policies like this. Putting the burden on you to sort out their counterfeit stock. Other places still have incentive to try to earn your business and treat you better. Not that they always do, but at least they have the incentive unlike Amazon now.
Also, it's weird Amazon shipped you that table 4 times because they usually don't offer the option after two. Maybe that was before the changes. They generally don't give a second thought to shipping things an egregious amount though, I think because that is their greatest strength over competition - making shipping cheaper via better logistics. So by offering low resistance to shipping, they beat out other online retailers. But you still have to hope they offer a free pickup, or you have to lug it down to a return spot.

Items sent directly from Amazon.com definitely go through a very specific shipping and labeling channel and has a much higher bar for dealing with counterfeits. And even then if you manage to get a bad one Amazon is way more likely to make it right compared to one sold through a 3rd party.

Dude I remember those proprietary memory sticks! I wanted to get into Sony digital cameras but those memory sticks were like twice the price of the CF card equivalents.
