I have the nitro 5 version of this from a few years ago. Be aware that these commonly have hinge & bevel issues. My bezel just started to pop open and there is no way to close it up around the screen because it has plastic clips that break easily.
Also my charger port went bad in less than a year but that was covered under warranty by acer.
its a $700 laptop that prioritized CPU and GPU for the price range... what do you expect? It still offers double the ram and hard drive capacity of a macbook air that costs $150+ more and is actually compatible with games. You can get a pc laptop with a gorgeous screen and lesser processor and no discrete gpu for similar money if that is what you desire. like it or not these are typical prices and loadout for lower end desktop replacement/gaming laptops.

Can you explain in short why you would prefer the 3050 over the 5500??
I'm asking honest opinion as I'm in the market and there is SO MANY option and feedback is extreme hot and extreme cold.. if you had the time I'd love to hear what you personally would recommend for some one working from office and truck. I need to build and modify 3D models in AutoCAD. I need to review Drone flight data and sometimes regenerate/process the data given and adjustments that have to be made. Not looking to spend a fortune but will spend however much it takes for a machine that can handle the aforementioned tasks. Thank you and anyone else in advance for their input and help!

I suggest the 3050 for AutoCAD. I teach a SOLIDWORKS class and find that Nvidia drivers have better stability for non-gaming functions. We have AMD in the lab and the computers are riddled with issues. Hope this helps! Also note, Ryzen does not have these issues and CAD is typically CPU/memory intensive. So if your spending more for parts, focus money there.

to be honest, my perspective is purely looking at it from a gaming POV - better and longer driver support (Nvidia has products it has supported nearly twice as long as AMD - may not seem like that big of a deal but look at how much more useful 10 year old computers are today vs 10 years ago) along with DLSS (hardware upscaling) that should help it spread its legs a little longer down the line (which is incredibly important given that the card only has 4GB of RAM). However as another person stated, even for non-gaming workloads, their drivers tend to fair better.

You posted a comment on a gaming laptop deal about why "apple is dominating" when the M1 chip can't even run games...Why are apple fanboys so annoying, at least comment about the superior battery life on an Ultrabook come on. Not everyone wants the Apple ecosystem even if their laptops have better screens and keyboards, and those are of less concern for gaming laptops. This is regardless of whether an RX 5500M is worth it at this price when 3050 Laptops with 20% more performance and newer designs are available for $50 more.

I'm surprised they know what 1080p is. You'd think they'd describe it with a silly name like "non-retina".

for $50 more and similar quality screen, I'd rather take a 3050
