Milwaukee and Dewalt have fanboys rooted in the marketing hype. Despite the debates here, Milwaukee and Dewalt are more like twins than they are different. It is like debating whether an Accord or Camry is better, as if they are massively different vehicles.

The truth is that Team Red and Team Yellow spend millions of dollars in marketing alone to recruit consumers to buy into their products. That is the real reason why they offer so many lines of tools (12v, 18v/20v, Fuel, Surge, Flexvolt, Power Detect, XR, Atomic, blah, blah, blah). It's like dangling various bait when fishing, hoping one hits. At some price point, they are hoping you bite and then it is game over, you're sucked into their line and forever drinking their Kool-Aid.

If I had to do it all over again, I would probably choose Rigid. They have quality tools, decent prices, but win big time by offering a great warranty policy, even on batteries. If a Dewalt or Milwaukee battery goes bad, you're shelling out another $50 or so for a new one. If a Rigid battery goes bad, you can swap it for a new one for free. They might not have the marketing power and variety of other lines, but most every tool you would need for 99% of jobs, they make. Just my 2 cents.

I don't even recall many "hackable" deals from Lowe's. (I mean, if you complain enough, then sure. )

Dang, this is a steal, especially if you get the reciprocating saw for $99. The 5AH battery itself is $70 on Amazon and Home Depot.

Although I do see them being sold on ebay for $54 for 2. That can't be legit. Must be knock offs.

So I just bought the recip saw. Wondering if I truly need it - I already have a Dewalt 20v circular saw, jigsaw (wired), and a multi-tool with a set of wood and metal blades. Is a recip saw faster?

Yea, it's pretty nice, I got it for 99 bucks with a free 1.5 battery a while ago. With a 5.0 it runs just about all day as long as it's not on high. I've used it when working next to my miter saw in the sun to cool me off or put it on our deck next to the couch

It's a different tool and has different uses. I like to use my reciprocating saw to prune trees and demo stuff. I disassembled an old shed with my recip saw recently. If you like to do home improvement and DIY projects, it's a must have IMO.

I rarely use a reciprocating saw unless I'm tearing something apart (like removing a 2x4 wall or stuffing an old tenant's couch into the waste bin) or making a quick cut on tree branch.

They're kind of the cuts-all of the tool world, and they're relatively quick, but they make sloppy cuts.
