Man I wish the top solar skimmer was on sale but this is a good deal
I really wanted one of those but they're so expensive. Check out PoolSkim it works great:

My understanding is getting rid of algae is about chemicals, not scrubbing. Head on over to the forums at troublefreepool.com for some great free advice by experts.
Correct me if I'm wrong but its a little of both. With above ground pools its pretty easy to get a little algae because they heat up and cool off so quick. Even with chemicals it will kill the algae but you still have to clean up the dead algae which can sit on the bottom of the pool. Again I may be wrong, but in my case there always seems to be some residue that I have to clean up like once a year even after treating.

I ran the Seagull 600 in my 18 foot round 4 foot deep above ground pool which I'm in the process of filling it up for the season (it was stored in my garage over winter). I was pleased for the first time running it. It did a good job getting whatever happened to fall to the bottom in the past week plus some sand from last season...which the sand was the main reason of my purchasing. See attached pictures.

On the algae question. You need to get your CYA and Chlorine levels balanced. Obviously I can't see your numbers but the typical issue is CYA levels too high. They should be in the 20-40 ppm range, but if you are using pucks, likely you are 5-10X that. At those levels your chlorine is basically all bound up and not working. You need to drain the pool then refill with fresh water then manage puck usage to get to the target range and use liquid chlorine. I did partial drains because I was worried about structural damage of a full drain (though partial drains are way less efficient). Read it all at TroubleFreePool ABCs of pool chemistry.

Just checked reviews on this thing and it's really bad. I'd stay away from this

cheaper just to buy the copper sulfate pentahydrate in bulk
best to buy Remington solar shock. I'm not kidding you, the damn thing works wonders at keeping the greenish yellow algae at bay. Scrub the copper anode every 2 or 3 weeks for a few minutes, and you're good to go.

You can thank me later

Hmmm... Wonder if this would work for my in-ground spa that the previous owner didn't put pop-ups in for some reason? That thing is a freaking nightmare to keep clean 😭

I have the previous version and I definitely have less manual leaf clean out. Maybe once every couple weeks.

In my situation the number one cause of algae is excessive phosphates. Even with high chlorine levels algae will grow if enough "food" is in the water. That, and what you mentioned as well is important.

Thoughts on this for just helping with some light algae? Can this replace brushing every week? My patio is screened in so I don't get much debris. Thanks! I'm going to start doing some research when I'm on break edit: nvm doesn't seem like a good option for that as it just has the water flow through and should mainly be good for small debris
I doubt it. But if your having to scrub your pool constantly and getting algae, brushing is not your problem. It's your water parameters that need fixing. Keep that ph, and chlorine especially at the right levels. Troublefreepool dot com is a great resource for that info and will save you a fortune on wasted products pool stores will sell you that you don't even need!

If you have Algea there's a chemical imbalance in your pool. Something is wrong with your chlorine levels or ph.

Chlorine shock your pool once in a while. Filter your pool properly. Keep PH and and chlorine level at the right level and you won't need a pool guy
