Not a better price than the recent VIP OUTLET deal, but still a good price on this lower-end Surface Pro, and actually sold by Walmart.

Thank you for posting this; I ordered one. I have been interested in picking up a Surface Go 3, but this device seems to be a much better value. My main interest is in using it for storing reference information and using Aquile Reader to view epub format books when away from my desktop. I don't plan to use the Surface for heavy duty computing, but I do hope the battery life is at least 8 hours for my use cases.

It's more than enough for your use case but battery life will be challenging

I got in on this for $599 back in January. Given your described use case, you'll get 8 hours or more. I use mine primarily for typical business computing -- MS Office apps, web-browsing, lite media, maybe a specialty app or two -- in 2-3 hour sessions, and I recharge after about each 4th session.
Yes, though, as yet, I haven't been able to confirm that any nvme 2230 form factor is compatible.
Alternatively -- and with less set-up fuss and currently cheaper per-GB -- for the wifi-only 7+, a high performance micro SD is an option. I'm considering a A2/U3/V30 class card, as I want to run a few installed apps from it. Costco has a Sandisk 400GB for $50.

Anyone know have an idea on when the refurbished gen 8 will be released? Interested in the bigger screen and keyboard.

Yes you can. You'll just have to buy a special form factor ssd.

That's not the case for SP7+

Hope this helps.
