About this offer:
  • How do I buy a Series I bond?
  • What is a Series I bond? (source)
    • "A savings bond that earns interest based on combining a fixed rate and an inflation rate."
    • You may use Series I bonds to:
      • Save in a low-risk product that helps protect your savings from inflation
      • Supplement your retirement income
      • Give as a gift
      • Pay for education
      • Click here for more information about Series I Bonds
  • What interest does a Series I bond earn? (source)
    • A combination of a fixed rate that stays the same for the life of the bond and an inflation rate that is set twice a year.
    • An I bond earns interest monthly from the first day of the month in the issue date. The interest accrues (is added to the bond) until the bond reaches 30 years or you cash the bond, whichever comes first.
    • The interest is compounded semiannually. Every six months from the bond's issue date, interest the bond earned in the six previous months is added to the bond's principal value, creating a new principal value. Interest is then earned on the new principal.
    • The composite rate for I bonds issued from May 2022 through October 2022 is 9.62 percent. This rate applies for the first six months you own the bond.
  • When can I cash my I bonds?
    • After they are 12 months old.
    • If you cash an I bond before it is five years old, you will lose the last three months of interest.
    • I bonds earn interest for 30 years if you don't cash the bonds before they mature.
    • If you've been affected by a disaster, special provisions may apply.

LOL at all of the annoying flexers here who couldn't resist saying "I told you so, you should have done this earlier," like they got in before the deadline at a magical rate that will ultimately make them an extra few billion. The rate is dropping to 6.7 next round, It's not like the rate is dropping to 0. The late comers missed out on 2.9%. Not the end of the world. Give it a rest already.

9.62 + 6.7 for 12 months will certainly be better than 6.7+future for 12 months. No one is flexing, just people tired of others bitching about a website that has worked fine 99% of the time over the last 6 months

I almost forgot this deal. Luckily saw this thread again last week. I said to myself if I get in at this rate it's fine. If not all is good, kicking myself that's would be it, lol. In life you win some you miss some. My wild idea of doing this deal late at night actually worked. 20 minutes and got several accts done.

It will be announced 11/1. Another likely interest rate hike will occur on 11/2 when the feds meet again.

I can read. It was flexing, and people were posting condescending "I told you so" BS. Whatever. I guess people are free to flex and be annoying just like people are free to whine about the website glitches. Anyway, I'm moving on since this deal is now dead for the time being.
