Why order from Apple directly? Free engraving. Normally, I don't care at all about getting things engraved, but it's actually quite helpful with AirTags.

That said, the primary use is to find it in close situations. You couldn't do that. You would be better off with tile. Unless you just want it for tracking "other things"
And if you lose things, it's better than tile because you can find things without playing a sound and announcing to your SO that you once again lost your keys.
That said. The apple policy of making it tied to only 1 Apple ID is stupid. It's why people can use it to track you. If you could share the location with other apple ids, there would be no reason for an unknown air tag to not be traveling with its phone. Right now, my wife's purse might just need to be with me and so I have to disregard any alert. If she could just share it, I would know if an alert was real or not. I don't get how these people thought this was a good idea, it only encourages stalking.
