Highly recommend these.

I got a set of the black ones about 6 months ago and they have been problem-free. I work in IT and these have a surprising number of advanced features - much more than you get from the competitors.

I've used many other mesh systems including Velop, Orbi, Eero, and Google wifi. None of them can compare to the speeds and reliability that I've seen from the XT8's. Picking up another set for my parents house!

I was going to go with Unifi UDM Pro and APs, but this set is tempting…won't be as configurable but cheaper and I had nothing but good experience with Asus networking stuff so far

Highly recommend these, someone on nextdoor said these didn't work for her and the google pucks are better… picked them up for $200. A steal and a great router.

Node ports stopped working after 60 days!horrible customer service as they asked me to send the defective node and once received they will send me a refurbished one! I was lucky enough to get a store credit when I originally bought them with BB Geeksquad extended warranty, back on Orbi again!

I had Orbis and was fairly unhappy. My iPhone would constantly reconnect to the 2.4Ghz network ignoring the 5Ghz. I'd also have to reboot the router once every couple of weeks the get things going again.

I switched to the Asus XT8 and couldn't be happier. It lets you split the SSIDs of your 2.4 and 5Ghz networks which makes life easier for people in my situation (and heavy IoT device users). I've also only had to reboot them once since buying them six months ago. Can't recommend these enough

Can you explain what split the SSIDs means?

You can different SSIDs for the 2ghz and 5ghz bands. Some IOT devices only work with 2ghz band and if you end up with router that only supports single SSID they have issues connecting or staying connected.

Dumb question but can I use these as "slaves" in an existing WiFi router?

yes. fantastic - feature rich, remotely managable, and allow for network segregation and in multiple bands

How does one run one of these mesh setups when you have several hardwired devices you'd like to keep hardwired?

I have the WiFi 6E version and while it looks good on paper, real world performance is lacking. Here are my issues:
1. The units loses connection on a regular basis. I don't know how many games I've lost because of this.
2. When I try to block internet access to a device via the app, it either takes a long time or doesn't work at all. With my old eero, it was instantaneous.
3. The computers in the guest network can't see each other. With my previous router, they could see each other, but not the main network. The only option I could find in the Asus settings is one that allows guest network to access the main network, which is utterly useless. If you enable it, your guest and main networks become the same subnet.

I had high hopes for this router because of my previous experience with a T-Mobile bended unit, but this unit needs a lot of work. I have had these for 5 months, and none of these issues have been fixed.
